Tech-house ish Track - Could use some feedback

This is a track I did last year that I have taken a second look at. I have taken some bits that I didn’t like out and changed some stuff around but I have lost all perspective on it.

I would like some honest feedback about what you think doesn’t work or doesn’t sound right. I am not sensitive about it, so you can be totally honest.

 Thanks

Gave it a couple of listens - everything sounds in place think it could do with a bit more variation especially in the middle - plus I would have liked a little more impact after the last break

But since its not really something I would go out of my way to listen too - what would i know

i like it a lot mate  nice vibe to it espeacially like the bassline

Thanks to both of you for listening and commenting.

@Slender - I agree with your point about needing more impact after the second break, in the last mixdown it lost some of its punch.

To be honest I feel like there is something more fundamentally wrong in this track. I had a problem with the drum track first time round and so I took it apart and re-did some of it and now, to me, it sounds like a cut and shut job which doesn’t really fit together.

Hey Ant

I think Slender is spot on and I don’t think it sounds like a cut and shut job with the drums. I thought they fitted in well.

It’s lacking a little energy but that could easily be corrected.

I think the drum work is spot on mate!

Ok, thanks a lot guys - I really appreciate it.

I absolutely agree with the need for more punch / energy particularly after the second break, but maybe a little more throughout.

And I will have a think about the middle section and doing something to add interest.

Sounds good indeed. There are a couple of things you could try:

  • change the kick. Maybe you could find one that fits the mix better. Sounds as if it’s missing a bit of low and high.
  • don’t know whether that acid like bassline is doing the track good. Besides that, try to remove the snare/clap combo on the first 4 to 8 bars.

Nice man! I really like this … I cranked this up and it sounded nice and full. Love the vox effect.

Not sure if I agree with the comments after the final breakdown, I thought you switched it up in an interesting way.

Keep polishing dude … this ain’t no turd!

Daniaan & Gav - Thanks to both of you for listening and let me know what you think.

Daniaan - The kick is the one element in the drums that I didn’t have a problem with  it is playing at 55Hz (A1) so there should be plenty of low. I am going to try out a few other kicks, just to see if I can get any improvement.

The arp bass after the break - I am going to keep this but I need to look at changing some things about it. It has moved more towards being an acid bassline, as you said, and that wasn’t really the idea. As part of the work I am going to try and de-acid it a bit.

Snare- yes.

Gav - Thanks dude! I was ready to move on and leave this behind, but the feedback I have had here has really helped me get focus back on it
