Tech Tips - Tom Demac Volume 1 / 361

In tutorial 2, you use the EQ to match the 2 different kicks together. But you dont explain where to look for when you remove some of the frequences or why you boost them up.
I know that you want to make a fat kick, but you dont explain the basic rules so that i can apply them to other layerings. Maybe someone from SonicAcademy can anwser me, because if i know the basicrules i can start building from there if i want to make a fat kick in the future, instead of just following the instructionwithout knowing WHY? Cheers!

For this type of thing its really down to having an idea in your head of what you want. i.e. I want it fatter, tighter, clickier etc. then you have to decide whats the best way to achieve. There are no rules such as boost 200hz by 3db because every situation and every source sound is different. what works with one kick could be completely wrong for another. So really you have to practice focused listening, trying to break down the elements into distinct layers in your mind. Like zone in on the Sub... is it too flabby is it to light? zone in on the thud of the kick - is it taking up to much space or too bulky?

Thanks Tom .
