TECHNO - BEYER / Liebing / Perc Pumping Bass Line

I thought I would return some info, for all the help I have gain from this site. A few months back people were asking about Techno basslines.

Well here is a quick tutorial to get the pumping bassline I, and few others were after.

Very easy if you have logic.

  1. Create a midi part link to a bass synth of sample using a sub bass patch.
  2. Draw a note on every 16th and play around with the velocity for each note.
  3. High Light all notes and quantize with the 16D setting in Logic

There you go, one pumping Techno bass rhythm…

I can extract the midi part and upload for people using Ableton or cubase…

Here is a sample of the bass you will achive

sorry to sound a dumb *** where would i find “global groove” settings

Next to the metronome button (little square)

also double click on the clip itself on the bottom left of the  left of the screen  you’ll see the clip groove box !

thanks for the help i tried altering the settings like you said but it made no difference whatsoever i cant nail this sound at all and been trying for ages is there any plugins that could do the same job??

? thats weird … you are programing all 16th notes on in the note lane?

you should be getting some swing for sure!

i’ve pulled up a sub bass out of sylenth programmed a one bar loop of continous 16th notes and added some swing sixteen and sidechained the bass to a kick what i’m left with is quite pumping but sounds totally different to steves clip

when you said the global groove should be 45/75 i altered the box next to the metronome thingy like you said but it made no differnce i,m new to production so i presume i’m probally adjusting the wrong thing i’ve read up in the ableton manual but cant even find global groove settings mentioned

Sorry dude im at home and use version 7

i think this is what you need

so something as simple as changing the swing could help me get this sound thank you for all your help mate its appreciated:)

i’ve tried nailing this sound for ages with no luck i’ll try with some different swing and let you know how i get on…:D:D

no worries dont forget as steve says try different  velocities on each note its really important man!

Download the midi part I put for the second download link and then just add it to a midi track in ableton and assign your sub bass, also sidechaining is not good for this style of rythym, you need to use eq to clean the kick and bass up.

cheers mate i’ll give it a whirl and let you know how i get on

i tried the download link and all i get is a blank page with a quicktime player in the middle and no where to click to download the midi file???

Right-clic on the link to open the context menu and choose “Save target as…” or any option you have (depending on the web browser you are using) to download the file to your computer. :w00t:

Like that tip Mate - Thanks a lot.
