The mix down process?

Hi guys,

I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

When mixing the volumes, does it matter if the Master Channel goes Red?

Is the correct way to mix, by turning everything down to get an overall Master Channel of -3db and then mastering will “higher” the volume again?

I find it hard to keep everything below -3db, especially when adding new elements.

Thanks for any help

Yeah you should try to keep the master out of the red.

there is no problem with having individual tracks very low to achieve this as the ableton mixer is 32bit float and has near infinite headroom.
