I’ve been sitting here racking my brains…and then I asked myself this question
Have we come to the edge of musical capabilities?
I mean we know by know that every signal is just a sine wave and that any groove or feeling has been discovered.
The more and more I listen to music the more it seems that it’s just this different form of waves reaching my ears. And as an electronic musician what justifies a new sound if it’s all made up of the same thing?
Any thoughts?
Well, I guess it’s like asking:
Has every picture been painted?
or
Has every photo been taken?
There is so much more out there that we haven’t just thought of. In years to come, you’ll look back and ask, “wow, back in the day I wouldn’t have imagined this sound”
It just seems that everything has been done.
Wow, deep post man!
There’s so many combinations of waveforms that I probably will never listen to them all in my lifetime - (a) because I’m married and (b) because I’m married. In the meantime I’ll have fun soaking up all I can.
Its like the lottery … too many combinations and I’ll never win!
Kept meaning to reply to this - sorry Saul for only doing it now:
I think theres always been a limit - and thats what forces innovation. Also makes people sick of one thing & rebel against the majority & come up with a different style.
Theres only one set of notes out there - pretty much(?!).
The way they are interpreted is constantly mutating. Look at Slenders Music for example (and I mean that as a total compliment).
Thats great Music.
Sounds unique. Sounds fkn great. Theres no limit cos everyone is different, has different influences, experiences & knowledge.
Music, like life is complicated. It cant be tied down.
I’M STAYING OUT OF THIS ONE…
You weren’t invited!

Ive always felt like that i hate the feeling of being limited so i build my own techniques to make something unique Limits dont exist build your way around them!

“the edge of music capabilities”
can’t really agree with you on this one one seeing that you can make a trillion different sounds from even the most basic synth.
Cool post !!, i guess thats why im into techno in such a big way, i love to search for new sounds that sound different to any other sounds, really i think its imagination that is limiting (well mine at least !)
Even classical composers in the 16th 17th century thought the same - but still persisted with new sounds and compositions
The problem today with most popular music there is a tendency to not break any rules and thus it all sounds similar
I suppose thats why I loved Punk at the time, Industrial electronic noise and now techno for the same reason as egg and other tec heads - its there to break boundaries and push sound to the limits
Techno is the modern version of Punk if it is done with passion
Well put that man !!
I should also add that if I didn’t believe sounds are endless I would give up and take stalking as a fulltime hobby - its a lot cheaper you know
