Tips for finding a vocalist?

I used to have a belief that everyone and their mother considered themselves to be a singer, unfortunately i dont think ive ever come accross anything more difficult as finding one. . .

Its just the type of vocals i need for trance isnt something that everyone has in their repertoir. I mean their are plenty of rock/pop/rnb singers that will sing amy winehouse to me all day but its just not the style i want or need. It also seems when you get a singer and you play them some ethereal music and ask if they can sing like ‘that’ it completely throws them and scares them away. I dont know if this is a location thing but where Holland is famous for its world class DJ’s, if you look for famous dutch trance vocalists you will find one and thats Sharon Den Adel and shes from the band Within Temptation and is literally the only dutch born singer i can think of that has sang on a trance track. I always wondered why Armin flew his vocalists from all around the world but i guess this is why?

I was just wondering what your tips were on trying to find a vocalist for the ethereal trance vox style. I mean if your a good singer your a good singer right? You should be able to sing a variety of styles right? I mean im trying to try and hear things in peoples voices like a softer mellow side etc but everyone is either trying to be Amy Winehouse or Rhianna, if i was making electro house or whatever this would be fine but i really think for uplifting trance you need a very particular ethereal/melancholy voice. I guess its easier finding an ethereal voice in Ireland but where should i go and what should i look for? Its getting to a point where im thinking of going to churches and trying to yank a choir girl but i really really dont wanna go down that path…

It gets even worse here in Holland when you find someone with a good voice and they sing with an accent or are like 40 years old and dont fancy working with a 24 yr old Dj. Also dont even get me started on vocal sample packs my god what a disgrace they are…

:frowning:

I feel your pain man sometimes I think its literally impossible…

Honestly though my best connections with singers have just been through sites like Soundcloud and hitting them up to see if their interested in putting something together. I feel like most of them are willing to work but I’m more worried about the quality on their end when it comes down to it

Yeah another bad factor is location i mean if i was searching worldwide id have no problem finding one but i dont like the idea of sending 1 a track and saying sing over this for me, i want them in my studio so i can ‘produce’ them if that makes sense…

I dont know if these vocals fit for trance, but sometimes there are some good acapellas.
