To much reverb

I finished a track recently, I’ve listened to it over a few sound systems and thought it sounded ace, however I included today in my most recent podcast and to my horrer when playing it back it sounded like there was way to much reverb on the whole track. I’m wondering my I didnt pick this up on my monitors, headphones etc.

Could this be to do with the room enviroment? Anyone have any advice on how to tackle this?

Very strange how myself or anyone didnt pick up on it before, the track is in my signature. Do you think there is to much reverb, I noticed it on the vocal on main riff mostly but other areas too.

When you played it back on monitors did you compare it with tracks of the same style that you liked? Coz when its in your pod cast thats basically what you doing.

Could be that you got so caught up in how good it sounded when you made it, that you forgot to compare it! I’ve done this before, thought I have the greatest track ever then when it tried mixing it realised it needed a lot more work.

Edit: I just check it out, sounds ok to me but I don’t listen to much trance these days

Yeah man, the verb is nice on the vocals during breaks but you might want to back it off a bit in the main sections.

The thing that stuck out most for me was the long delayed hat-thing that you use instead of a crash, it plays throughout most of the track and both the reverb and the delay are too much on this and it gives a really washed out sound.

Its a very very nice track, is it an official remix? If not where did you get the vocals?  I don’t do trance but they are tasty!

Yeah sure did, I had 2 tracks loaded into ableton while doing it. Always a good to idea to compare sounds etc when makeing a track I think.

I can’t notice it on my monitors as much even now, only when I go into the other room and hit play on my ipod dock. Strange, I’m wondering if it could be to much gain or something during the recording on my podcast. The last thing I want to do is go removing reverb if its not needed.

Not offical mate, but I have sent it over to Armada so you never know! (Long shot I know!)

Had them in a file floating around on my hard drive, try www.acapellas4u.co.uk, thats prob where I got them mate

Sounds like its the result of compressing the file to mp3 format.

I’ve had this before, after coverting format it’s made it sound a bit f*cked with other tracks, no idea why this does this. Gotta be some really deep technical reason i guess which i’m hoping someone will shed light too on here soon

Interesting, I’ll put the wav and my ipod and compare via the same sound system I think

Tbh trance is quite reverby sometimes it seems every element in à trance track is soaked with reverb and delay. I dont think reverb is your problem in this track its your build up in your main break. Its just its nt very big or epic its like à quick snareroll and bang you drop. All THE sounds and stuff etc sound great and very proffesional but THE whole build up it didnt really lift me or move me. I dont listen to too much trance these days so i dunno if this is how most trance is these days. Anyways just my 2c.

Funny u say that because normally I would have a more to the build up, more lifting etc but I was trying something new, I loaded a tune into ableton and followed the build up to it. The build up is very similar to ronskie speed’s lasting light which seems to have done pretty well ([url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZej4i2F2YE]- YouTube) so personally I dont think the build is an issue when compared to other trance of the present. I do like a longer build with more energy however but gotta try new things

Fair enough mate. Only thing i can think of Is that i thought ronski speed Is a moré electro-y minimalist trance producer and i thought your a moré uplifting styled producers. I listened to your other tracks and for my personal taste and oppinion which Is definately not the end all be all i just feel those moré épic buildups go better with your sound. But definately get some other oppinions and if im wrong about ronski speed i apologise.

I see where your coming from mate. I don’t really think I have a defined trance sound as yet, I’m still developing it a lot. In fact I plan to start on a minimal progressive trance-y number today. I really want to play with all kinds of trance as opposed to being shelfed into one area, I may even dive into other dance genres over time.

I would however agree with your comments regarding ronskie speed but at the same time this is why I chose the jorn van deynhoven remix to base that my remix on. Loving his sound at the moment which is has a more epic kinda feel.

Wouldnt mind hearing some o your stuff mate, you got any links?

Wayne you’re doing really well buddy, just keep with it, i’m sure we’ll see plenty more releases from you in no time at all!
