In case some don’t know what I mean by “Tracking out a mix” I mean adding tracks to a mix whenever a song changes. Like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc etc instead of just 1 whole track on the cd. This would have obvious purposes for demo cds and the like. How do I do it?
You don’t mention if you have a PC or a Mac, or what software you have so all I can do is say how I do it on a PC with Soundforge.
Open the mix
Set markers at the begining of each song by pressing M (don’t forget to do one at the start of the mix, and at the end of the mix)
When you have set them all select menu Special - Region List - Markers to Regions
Then select Tools - Extract Regions
Then Extract

i was wondering how to do this myself actually! good post! thanks Ant!
If I have one continues mix, and burn it to CD, I make a CUE file myself.
You can Google it.
Load the CUE file in Nero and it will make sure you have cue points whenever your new track appears in the mix.

Thanks guys.
TheAnt,
I use MAC and PC. I do not have Sound Forge but I do have Adobe Audition. A long time ago, like 4 years ago, I used it to track out my first demo mix cd, but I couldn’t remember how to do it. I use Ableton, but I’m assuming it can’t be done in Ableton?
FYI, I did it in Ableton! Very easy, but somewhat tedious…
Simply highlight each track and export each one individually. Be sure to write down the EXACT TIMES of each track so its exactly in line with the start of the next one. Took me about 2 hours or so to export all 41 tracks on my latest mix so it’s not too bad. I couldn’t find a gap-less playback or burning option on Windows Media Player so I did the burning in I-Tunes and it worked perfectly.
Btw, I’d be willing to do a little mini-tutorial on this. I think a lot of djs would appreciate it. Let me know, tho, maybe a lot more ppl know how to do it than I thought.
