Tracks forum

howie,

i’d really like some harsh critism on my track

do your worst… no honestly!! i can only benefit from!

if you can be bothered, obviously its in the tracks forum!!

hope to hear from you!!

oh, if you do by the way… mention what you like as well

if anything. peace
Mussi81 (20/12/2010)
personally i think that anyone on this forum that has had tracks released (and there is a few now!) has right to give honest criticism as long as it is constructive. i dont feel i have the right to comment just yet but will do later on

 :)
agree on that one

aslong as its contructive its all fine

after all if a producer can’t take that they should really get out of the scene now it will only get worse as people get more and more picky as to wat they want

i second that! if people start getting arsey about things that are said ill step in!

In response:

I am not constructive in that way. I am an artist, as are you. I can not tell you what to do, or what you should do. You have to find a creative way to convey to the listener what you are feeling. So, you might hear things like “this doesn’t sound right” or “this is off key”, etc, etc. You will not hear me say, “this doesn’t sound right, you should have done this…” or “this is off key, it should be this note…” etc. You will have to figure this out on your own. This is what was done to me. I don’t get my hand held and neither should you. Am I the best? **** NO! Am I better than anyone else? **** NO! I can just tell you what I hear that is incorrect, but fixing it is up to you. I also, will not be nice. Will I be mean? No. I’m not a mean person. But I am direct. So, if you can’t handle it, then I can’t help you. I apologize in advance.

I am here to help though. If you want it, email me your track via sendspace and label it and i will get to it and write some notes down for you.

I agree and don’t agree with Howie at the same time, it’s difficult to give constructive critism to some people because even if there is a whiff of negativity, people get all up their arse about it.

The point of constructive critism is it’s supposed to be critism and it’s supposed to be constructive.

If people took more time to listen to the negatives and worked on those rather than cry because they didn’t get 100% positives then they’d find they would improve.

Sure when it comes down to it, critism is mearly individual ‘opinion’, but it’s all about trying things out, if it works for you, great, if it doesn’t, then scrap it.

Trying different tips, techniques and ideas out is what helps YOU get better, you keep what you keep and get rid of what isn’t for you. Remember what doesnt work for one person, works for another.

Now on to where i disagree with Howie, to fob off all advice from anyone that doesn’t release on the majors isn’t really a good idea, everyone has got something to teach, whether their a 30 year seasoned pro, to someone who’s only been doing things 6 months, you can learn from anyone, but it’s up to you - the individual - how you process that information.

Also, why only point out the bad? It’s just as constructive pointing out the goods too.

I never said anything about not taking advice from someone who has not released music. I might have said that I only take advice from specific people. That’s just me though.

I agree. You can learn from anyone and everyone.

I only point out the bad, because that’s what needs to be improved. If someone wants criticism from me, I give it like I want it. When trying to finish a project, I could personally give a crap what you like about the track. When full steam ahead, I want to know whats wrong with it to get it to releasable quality and amazing. I have put out one track on a major dance label. I have created multiple tracks other then that that have not been released or have been shopped. Like I said, I am not in the business to put out mediocre music. I want to release AMAZING stuff.

alrite lads i just posted my latest WIP on the remix competition can i pleaseeee get everyones feedback whether its good or bad?

I suppose it all depends on the reason for posting your track up. Are you just asking if people like the style/genre of the track etc or are you asking someone to give constructive comments. I personally have never posted a track but if i did it would be to see if people generally like the tune - after all a few sets of ears make a difference. I think people need to clarify the reasons for posting. After all if you sent your tune to some big Dj’s or to a record label surely your asking “what do you think of my tune” and not if the kick and bass sits right. Just a thought

Alot of djs are producers too so they give you feedback like that

but with this being sonic academy and everyone here learning as much as they can im sure people post things up to find out the more technical side of things aswell as if it gets peoples butts shaking on a cold friday night in a club

Tbh i strongly feel the ONLY people giving feedback in the tunes section should be the tutors anyone else is pot calling the kettle really… Have i said that right?? Lol.

Also another thing i was thinking of and something i really hope doesnt go on here BUT you never know… There could in theory be some jealous cocks on here that listen to your track, get jealous because they realise they could never make something as good so they run your track into the ground and completely **** up your confidence and set you back. I mean whos to say any of us know anything lol? I mean i respect Phil as an artist so if he were to feedback my track i would really listen and take note. If however some guy with 3 posts on here telling me my track is **** or saying something like ure bass is weak or your lead sounds **** whos he to comment on anything? I need to hear the work of anyone who wants to comment on my work before i take any notice.

I have seen this going on, on other forums but thankfully not seen it here

Seriously?!! That’s weaaak

When it comes to house or trance i can definitely give good feedback, as a DJ and as a producer, but when it comes to anything else i can only give a ‘passing comment’.

Just like with Mussi’s recent techno track, i tried to give some comments / thoughts but cos my knowledge in techno is limited, any value to what i can feedback with is massivly decreased.

yeh ive seen that happen a fair bit. You learn to ignore people like that and work out who is honest

Yeah anything House/Trance i feel confident i can give good feedback but if someone was to ask me to rate their techno track i wouldnt know a damn thing lol.

i always let people know if its not the music im used to but at the end of the day you can listen and comment on the production and give help

we are all here for the same thing

It just seems people check out the posts and then cant be bothered to take the time to listen to the tunes. We are all here for the same thing i try and find a day where i just listening to stuff like this and other peoples beats and if i can help i will.

I do this because i hope that others will take the time to listen to the stuff i have spent hours working on and give m their opinions too. Don’t be lazy people lets get this place to where it should be. A forum where people can come showcase music and get in depth feedback.
