Tracks forum

i would just like to note how poor the tunes and mixes forum has become.

its a shame because every time i finish a track and need some well needed advice and feedback you just dont get it.

not just me though, i see a lot of tracks that just waste away without a reply.

maybe we should start chipping in a bit more over there!!

i certainly still need feedback when i finish a track. im sure a lot of others still do

so if you cant get it here then where can you get it?? coz i would like to know!

i gave up on it a long time ago. i have commented on tracks before but never get any feedback myself so just do it all on soundcloud

Big sorry on my behalf on this account, i do try to get in there and listen to everyones tracks but I barely get time to listen and react to the 100s of promos I get weekly, let a alone get in and feedback on peoples tunes. Just takes over your life a bit, especially when trying to juggle everything else that’s going on in life.

Pull yer finger out Rob FFS!!

gotta say i really don’t bother usually because it’s really hard to give feedback for me. most people only really want you to say “yeah cool track” or something along those lines and imo that doesn’t really help anyone.

I also think that although we have some good producers here i don’t think any of us can really critisize another persons music.

I try and listen to tracks, some users PM me them to have a listen (sorry for the ones I’ve not got around to yet! been drinking for day! Will do tomorrow DEFO!)

but its hard to give feedback on something u do like for example but saying that you can give mix down feed back etc etc

So yes! we should all chip in more everyone, lurkers, losers, members and TUTORS more then anyone else…

I seem to remember when signing up “and get a fast reply with anything on the subcriber support from our tutors”

whatevery happened to that!

tutors massively!!! totally agree there wayne

why the hell not???

takes 2 mins to check out a track in that forum. and its not as if the tracks are flying in constantly…

its probably like one every few hours. maybe less

I think it would be a great idea for the tutors once a month to review a track in it’s native format, and actually produce a video showing what tweaks they’d make, where they’d add things, automate things, etc. I’m sure it’d be useful for everyone. I expect the more advanced SA users could also take part. Anyone see any merit in this idea?

I try and listen to any tech/ tech house track someone posts or someones who says it’s their first track - but like others it just to much to listen to everybodies tunes especially if its a genre I am not particularly interested in unless they are what i consider friends

Plus I get far more response on soundcloud than here but thats because not that many people here are realy into what i do which is fine by me

totally agree. they are ones that can cross different genres and still give good feedback

Well, if nothing else it’s ALWAYS useful to hear what other people hear when they listen to your track on their systems - less of a “I like/hate it” opinion and more of a “this sounds odd/out of place” “panned too far” “muddy” etc.

On that note, I’ve posted a new one to the tracks forum.

you should always say what you like and dont like about someones track.

the reason i started this thread is because i would, obviously, like to get signed and when your so in experienced its hard to know yourself whether your ready or not.

that definitely comes with experience!

i put a track up about a week or two ago and its like nearly into the 2nd page without a reply.

im not puttin on a sob story but its just a bit of a gutter, thats all

The issue that I have found here is that who is anyone here (including myself) to tell you if your track is good enough or if you are ready? I’m not here to tell you what to do and what not to do. Send your track to labels. If no one picks up your track, you’re not ready. If you want to run with the big boys (Armada, etc.) send it to them only and see if you get a bite. Anyone will release music nowadays with the hope of making a bit of cash off of you, even if its garbage. I’m not in the business of making garbage or mediocre music. I hold my music to a VERY high standard. I also only take advice from the best musicians I know and artists that put music out on those types of labels. So ultimately, like you said, me saying “Nice Track!” or “Sounds Great!”, or “I love this melody!” is gonna do you not a lick of good. And because of my direct tone when I speak to others, I will come across as being a “jerk” or being “rude”. Even you have said it George. No worries though bro. I understand how I am. But the only people that I give advice to are the ones that know me and are the ones that can take my harsh criticism. In the end, you don’t want me to critique your track, because I will do what was done to me and it made me alot better. I will rip your track apart and tell you everything that is wrong with it and it will probably make most people feel horrible. Because in the end, telling you what I like, doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is a good track. And if you want honesty, mines brutal and could make you cry. It has to others. If you would like a bit of insight, ask Addy or Jon how I am and the type of criticism I give. I’m cool with them and I want to help them when they ask me for it. But in regards to their feelings, I could care less about them. When it comes to their music, they want honesty. And I give it to them.

NO FLUFF!

Howie - I think we could all do with that though. Especially from Bry and Phil. Of course, not everyone would want it or like it but it’s necessary.

I’m only going to improve if someone with more experience than me tells me, in a constructive way, what I’m doing wrong and then how to do it right/better.

I’ve had 30 years of MA training where I get that kind of feedback all the time - less now of course as I tend to be the one giving the criticism but I still do receive it. It works.

i also tink that its important for outsiders to give feedback on your track… clearly not about the mixdown or anything but whether or not they wuld like to hear it in a club. they have fresh ears that appreciate music and at the end of the day… in the clubs, id say 80% are just music lovers not producers or DJs, so i think they are important to get feedback off too… anyone agree?

I feel the same i try and give feedback on as many tunes as my time allows (and its limited due to label work)

even if its not my usual genre i still try and give feedback but i notice my tunes just get overlooked

This is a place for helping people and sharing music. We all need to start helping each other out and paying more attention. I think it will really help

I guess I just dont like to waste others time. If anyone wants feedback, I will give it to them personally, not over a forum. Because if you are ready, I will pick your track apart… Privately of course. I will not tell you what I like about it. i will tell you what IS wrong with it. If you are ready, I’ll help. But don’t expect nice Howie.

Thats why we are all on this forum is it not? to get picked apart to further ourselves and make the best of our skills

I thought so too. but then i get complaints that i am too forward or direct. Ive even been called mean. Oh well. I’m here via PM if anyone needs me.

this is a tough subject, i would really like to see phil and bryan giving tips and advice in the tunes forum but that is unrealistic as it would be a full time job in its self.

personally i think that anyone on this forum that has had tracks released (and there is a few now!) has right to give honest criticism as long as it is constructive. i dont feel i have the right to comment just yet but will do later on

i would welcome some comments on my track in the tunes forum, i think its not necessarily pointing out what is wrong with a track but helping that person to improve it!

i wont take offence if someone slates my track as long as its constructive and i will only take their advice if i believe that it will improve my track or it is something that i think is a good suggestion.

i want to get better and the only people i have to help me do that is you lot!
