Trance lead?

hi,

can anyone pls explain to me what is a standard trance lead made of (notes)?

ie:

1. should i just write one line of notes with spaces in between…or should i fill those spaces with other notes from the chord?which is the standard

2. should the notes be single? or double note (as in a chord?)

again i know everything is possible…but what’s the standard routine?

i just need a point to start from…

thanks,

depends what you want… trance as in Above nd Beyond or W&W ? plus now with trance its never just the one lead so insted of being one long complex chord layout it could just be a lot of simple sounds made into a looop which sounds trancey

there are no rules. make what sounds good. even better…listen to your favorite songs and try to replicate the sounds and the notes. you will most likely not come up with what your inspiration made, but it will most of the time be pretty cool.

try that.

come up with a nice rhythm with single notes on a line similar to a percussion part.

then pick a scale… pentatonic or minor always sound nice… pentatonic is more versitle in terms of the chords it fits with but minor is more emotional.

check out howies tutorial for info on using scales.

use the notes in the scale to move your notes about until the sound pleasing to your ears.

you will also want your bassline moving in either 1 or 2 bar sections so… C for 1 bar A for 2 bars G for one bar… until it sounds cool and your lead fits.

Thats what you could do…

Alternatively i find just running a kick and getting a nice sound with a bit of delay on the keyboard using left hand for bass and right for lead and just jamming until something awesome pops out. always record your jams.

thanx guys

i will try all of the suggestions…

will let u know

what do you mean by the same notes as a percussion part phil??

and is the bassline the same sound as the lead just a much lower key??
