Hello guys, gonna start putting up a tune each week with a bit of a blurb about why I like it so much and hopefully I can open some artists/remixers/bands up to people that you might not have heard of and maybe start a chat about the tracks and or artists themselves.
This week I will be mostly listening to…
Jon Hopkins - Light Through The Veins
I’ve been a fan of this guy for years and this is off his last album “Insides”. Some people might be familiar with the intro as Coldplay used it as the intro to their last album (don’t hold that against him though!!). I love the sheer amount of parts in this but he is able to make it not sound cluttered or messy and in a track that is basically a loop that builds and falls he’s using a subtle use of alternative bar and phrase length that makes the whole thing not sound like the same thing looping over and over even though it’s not much more than that. A deceptively simple track, that even though it’s 9mins long seems to not be long enough!
that’s actually a really cool song, wasn’t so sure when i first started listening but its a grower and your right by the time i got to the end i had to put it back on again
he did a lot of engineering, studio work with them - there was an awesome article in Computer Music last year, interview with him and stuff.

he was still using a really laptop and version of cubase etc… as he feared upgrading would destroy his creativity.
Think he’s just moved onto ableton now.
