Hi all,br
br
So as the title suggests, i’m looking for tips, tricks and ideas for turning small elements i’ve created into tracks.br
br
The problem i have is that i have multiple projects of good ideas like a melodies, bass lines, percussion etc (that don’t necessarily work together). I just can’t seem to push these elements into a full tracks, i’ve just been making these elements as the ideas have come.br
br
Does anyone else have this issue? I would love to actually finish some original projects that weren’t from following tutorials or deconstructing tracks.br
br
Thanks for reading,br

Some things I do:br

Select a favourite track from another producer. Load it into your DAW and try to copy it. As an exercise. This often sparks a creative idea.br

Take the original idea you have, let’s say a bassline, and use sample loops (drums, melodies) to create a cool sounding 16 bar loop. Now, start removing each of the sample loops and replacing them with your own components one at a time. Let’s say the drum loop is a full loop. Listen and see what makes up each layer in it - kick, percussion and tops (hats). Try to recreate each layer yourself. Lose the original loop and see what it sounds like now. When you’re happy move onto the melody loop and find a preset on a VST (or create one if you know your synthesis) that sounds similar. Now recreate the loop as closely as you can. Drop the original sample loop and tweak away at the melody.br

The hardest part for me in production is always the arrangement. I often use finished tracks from other producers as a guide for arrangement. Drop it into your DAW project, warp it to the track’s tempo and use it as a guide for when elements should come in and out and how the transitions are handled. This always helps me take loop ideas to fully finished tracks.
Great tips, thanks very much.
Thanks. Hope they help.
