Tutorial: Studio Acoustics and Sound Absorbers question(s)

I’ve set up the Room EQ Wizard and have got it working somewhat properly. I noticed the default sweep level for Room EQ is -12db, but the tutorial is set at -30 db. Why the difference?

Hi Jrel!

I’m not sure, but it MIGHT be because of the routing Phil used to get the program to actually analyze the sound through his system. When performing stunts like this, it is always good to protect your ears and equipment form potential “mistakes” one might make which could damage one or all of your more useful tools.

I ran Room EQ Wizard when I installed my home-made bass traps and found my particular analyzation process to be cumbersome as well. Add to that the fact that you are essentially setting up your system to feedback into itself and it tends to make one very nervous, especially if you have expensive monitors or pre-amps!

I think Phil might have given himself a “safety” so that any anomalies in the feedback loop wouldn’t kill any equipment. That’s my assumption. Anyone else want to chime in here? Sorry, I’m only going off what I saw Phil do and my own experiences with R-EQ-W…
