Videos on IPAD

Hey Sonic Academy Crew,

Just wondering when we will be able to stream the videos on the IPAD.

Thanks

Addy

no, the website uses flash for their videos. iPads and iPhones dont have the ability to run flash. they would have to rebuild their video player. Maybe one day though.

If your iPad is Jailbroken, then yes you can… Just found this article for you;

Im just looking for the same sort of hack as i wouldn’t mind getting the videos up on my iPhone

there are ways to use flash without jail breaking as well. youtube it1 havent done it myself but i have watched the video

I find it hard to believe you can do it without jail breaking you iPhone, do you have the video to hand Mussi?

@Howie, Yes I know it does not support flash, thats the reason I asked the question in the first place !

Just jailbreak your iPad that the only way at the moment. Apple have no plans to incorporte Flash into the iPhone or IPad as standard anytime soon.

Out of curiosity why not - surely Apple are shooting themselves in the foot for not supporting Flash, or is it a technical issue ?

Not to sure but this should explain it…
Apple boss Steve Jobs has published a rare open letter on the official Apple site which explains comprehensively why none of Apple’s mobile products support or make use of Adobe Flash.

The main reason is, unsurprisingly, that Apple would rather make use of open standards like HTML5 than closed platforms that are dependant on third parties.

Jobs’ letter starts by explaining how the decision is not a personal one, highlighting how Adobe and Apple have a long history and have worked closely together in the past, before laying down six reasons why Apple avoids Flash on the iPhone and iPad - including the technical failings and slowness of Flash.

“Adobe has repeatedly said that Apple mobile devices cannot access “the full web” because 75% of video on the web is in Flash,” says Jobs. “What they don’t say is that almost all this video is also available in a more modern format, H.264, and viewable on iPhones, iPods and iPads…Although Flash has recently added support for H.264, the video on almost all Flash websites currently requires an older generation decoder that is not implemented in mobile chips and must be run in software. The difference is striking: on an iPhone, for example, H.264 videos play for up to 10 hours, while videos decoded in software play for less than 5 hours before the battery is fully drained.”

As well as picking problems with the third-party nature of Adobe and the impact on battery life, Jobs also said that Flash applications were designed for PCs with mice and that Apple’s touch-based interface therefore made usability a problem.

“Flash was created during the PC era – for PCs and mice,” Jobs said in summary. “Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards – all areas where Flash falls short.”

“The avalanche of media outlets offering their content for Apple’s mobile devices demonstrates that Flash is no longer necessary to watch video or consume any kind of web content.”
Basically Apple Are Tossers (in my view as they could have it)… Sorry Mac Lovers but I’ll stick with my HTC Windows Mobile and my PC.

Could not put it better myself Wayne

I dont see it as a huge problem not being to have Flash on your iPhone or iPad, its actually not THAT much of a biggy!

@ Wayne : not that I would like start a hate thread but HTC with Windows Mobile OS ? really bud lol, haha there is a reason why 99% of the studios run logic pro on Mac.

Apple Quarter Results:

CUPERTINO, California—July 20, 2010—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2010 third quarter ended June 26, 2010. The Company posted record revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion, or $3.51 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $9.73 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.83 billion, or $2.01 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.1 percent compared to 40.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 52 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

Apple sold 3.47 million Macs during the quarter, representing a new quarterly record and a 33 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 8.4 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 61 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 9.41 million iPods during the quarter, representing an eight percent unit decline from the year-ago quarter. The Company began selling iPads during the quarter, with total sales of 3.27 million.

HTML5 is the future and Flash is no biggie for Apple, they dont support it now but will add it sooner or later.

Exactly! So you wouldn’t ever have the need lol :stuck_out_tongue:

if you want to send us your ipad we can get it working no problem

I think I figured it out

Putting the apple vs PC vs iPhone vs htc discussion aside there are a lot of ipads in circulation and I would love to see the videos working on it as would many others.

Even sonic academy tutor chris has an iPad look
