Virus TI

hey guys wondering if anyone has a virus ti and your thoughts on it, I notice hardwell and people like armin are using them and even just the presets seem to be better then in fatness then anything sylenth can produce even with some layering, so I would love to hear peoples thoughts on whether this is a good investment for getting really fat and nice trance and main room leads.

I really think you can get the same Fatness of sounds from Sylenth, Massive & ANA.

I think the difference is more to do with the Virus Ti Env Shapes, Reverb and some of the other FX.

Im really not just saying this because of ANA… but I have no bother getting Virus type sounds out of it.

I set up ANA to use a popular Virus type OSC and ENVs config… sounds pretty close to me.

Used a Large Plate reverb similar to the Virus.

Yeah remember that the Virus TI isn’t really a hardware synth. It’s just a VST in a box. It has less computation power that your PC and won’t run as many global voices.

That said I’m not doubting that it would be a hell of a good time to play around with. I just bought an NI Maschine and I’m having a blast playing around with it. Physical hardware devices can be fun, and fun is definately a factor to consider! The price of the TI is quite steep, however, imo.

very steep!! :w00t:

Maybe,

Phil could do a tech tip on layering leads and show us how to get them as big as what we are all hearing in, for example hardwells tracks including any external plugins and reverbs.

I really dont want to have to invest in something like the virus ti but I just havent been able to figure out how to get leads as full like what we hear in big tracks at the moment,

I layer a lead think its sounding alot bigger but then in reality its still nothing compared to the big tracks at the moment. Im not worried about sound design so much Im fine with the sound my leads just the fullness.

So I guess I would just love to see how people go about getting a sound as big as theres, and if you say ANA can match up I would really like to see a video on it especially now that I own ANA as well

possibly a lead close to this, I think this lead just sounds so full and I read hardwell uses a virus ti. If you can get something this big by layering ANA, I would be super impressed

Close to what?

hahah sorry forgot to do this Hardwell & Joeysuki - Munster (Original Mix) - YouTube lead at 2.30

Ok… so this is ANA with a Lexicon Large Plate reverb - it turns off halfway through so you can hear the difference.

Thats just using a few tweaked presets… no EQ, Compression or mastering.

Sonic Academy ANA with Lexicon Large Plate - HardWell by SonicAcademy ANA

Heres the Project.

Just saved you 1.4k!

Is that just one ANA sounds pretty solid, cant believe how much difference the large plate reverb makes def got to get me that. Other then that one lead aside even if you dont do a video on it how exactly would you go about layering a lead phil like avicii’s leads are always massive from lots of layering, im wondering how you would go about it whether you would split the frequencies with filters like the bassline or would you do a different way?

That hardwell one is 4 ANAs bass, mid, lead, string. Check out the project.

Im guessing avicii uses similar layering.

It’s the same thing I see over and over again. Get a simple melody with a repetitive groove. Have the bass moving underneath with same groove. Duplicate melody with higher octave detuned super saw.

Thanks heaps Phil its things like this that make me glad I renewed my subscription the help we get on the forums is worth the money alone :).

With the lexicon reverb I noticed it says you need a I lock 2 when I went to buy it, are there any other reverbs that have a good long plate reverb that I can buy without having to buy a dongle and wait for them to send that to me?

Hey Phil,

With that hardwell project would you then put a lower bass like you did in the dutch house tutorial? Or would you think your getting enough bass from the bass and strings you have? Im just wondering becuase im going to try and use this as a template way to start layering my leads and then work more from there.

I retreated the lex reverb patch in 2caudio aether and abltons reverb… I’ll post it up tomorrow.

If you intend to have the riff running over the drums then yeah you would need a bass… Something just pretty basic.

Ok thanks again for your help phil

hey phil could you please make a version of this for the logic users please. thanks

Sorry for diggin up an old thread mate, but did you ever post the reverb patch for ableton? It seems the lex plate reverb vst is just outa my budget… or maybe im looking at the wrong one, 500$

Lexicons reverbs are really expensive. One of the most expensive ones ive ever come across anyway. But there are other good reverbs that u can buy for less money! I think 2cAether is really good from what heard from it and its not that expensive. 200 bucks i think. But im really interested in Vallhallaroom reverb ive heard so much great about it and its only 50$. Good luck with finding a reverb that u like:)
