Hello, I produce trance and there is honestly not a single thing I like more than vocal chops of “aah” “ooh” sounds common in a lot of trance, like Maor Levi - Reflect, Andy Moor’s Stuff, etc… Adam Szabo - Serano (HQ) - YouTube 1:45 is a good example of what I mean.
I don’t know how to go about this though, do I need to find a sample pack that already has this or do these artists just take full vocal samples and cut them? Also if I don’t own royalty to a singing sample, like let’s say something by Ana Criado, is it legal for me to cut it up and use it?
thanks for your time
It isn’t hard. Just sample from a vocal. Think he uses only 3 different sampled vocal stabs. And only one is really played in different keys. Lots of reverb and delay.
it would be nice to see a tech tip covering just that… and you’re right tons of trance have this vocal effect all throughout some tracks.
the best example i’ve seen on here is when Phil gated an ah ah pad from alchemy in the peak time trance video. you could do the same with a vocal clip. just go into the audio clip and gate it using the volume. and yes put tons of delay an reverb.
OK, so just to clarify I can take any vocal sample even if I don’t own it and if I cut it up enough I can use it royalty free?

you can buy royalty free sample packs which means after you buy them you can do whatever you want with them. check out dance midi sample web site. they have some decent vocal samples. music radar has some free royalty free female vocal samples and one of the files is trance.
it would be nice to see vengeance come out with just an fx vocal pack. that would be nice!!
make sure you know how to put the vocal sample in the right key by using melodyne or the ableton transpose.

I’ve seen those, they are usually crappy and expensive, and either way I’d just like to know the legalities of cutting non-owned vocals. Also if somebody sells an acapella does that mean the buyer owns the copy? IE: Marcus Schossow sold his “Mr. White” acapella on beatport and I bought it, so can I use it royalty free in my own tracks or is it just for listening?

not sure:ermm:
contact beatport
kk thanks
Sure you can grab those vocal stems from any track you like.
There’s a minimum length a sample needs to be before you are required to pay royalties.
Those vocal stabs are a second tops.
Don’t worry about it. Especially when you layer them with some nice fx and play them in another key.
