Vocal production from start to finish

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE; Sonic Academy TEAM … CAN a quick video tutorial be done on Programming the below “Phat Electro Bassline”.:hehe:

- YouTube

Would be awesome to also include a straight forward video on how to to do proper vocal production and achieve that strong lead electronic music vocal in the above track!!

@ da mo, Using Ableton Live 8 and Currently Own the WAVES mercury bundle, Oxford Sonnox Bundle, Atares AutoTune and Harmony engine, Sylenth1, D.CAM Synth Squad (if that helps)

Currently using the fireface 800, which records audio beautifully, but I’m getting really stuck with how to properly process and layer vocals to get it to sit professionally in the mix (as it does in the above you tube track)

Would be soooo awesome if you could shed light some positive light on this for me

I’ll tell you what to do on that…

Double your vocal and apply effects to just one track. See what you like the best. It’s all trial and error. Then just keep what you like.

doubling your vocals is a very quick way to make them sound 10 X better.

we will look at doing a vocal production video in the future, once we clear the backlog of How To Sound Like tutorials we’ve got lined up for the site!

Just to add basically to what has already been said, when you double your vocal, try quantising one of the vocals over a little bit, then pan both vocals, one to the hard right and the other to the hard left.

You can also try adding an extra layer/s and pitching it up and/or down to add more depth.

Like howie said, play around, it’s all trial and error, as is most of music production.

Yeah, that panning left and right, creates a “wide” sound, but I wouldnt use it on every word, just accents.

I have never heard about pitching up vocals. That would really screw up the vocals unless you were using Melodyne. I try to keep my vocals as natural as possible. Including the tempo they were originally recorded at.

The only way I would time stretch vocals is sending it to a friend that has Pro Tools. Pro Tools has the best time stretching Algorithm out there PERIOD.

I can’t find the track at the moment but as soon as i do i’ll link a section of it to you, The vocal on the track has a section where the vocal seems to have the delay panned to one side of the mix with a slightly phased version on the other side and with the added reverb makes the vocal sound really cool and kinda tripped out
