First of all thanks to Sonic Academy I’m able to make lots of progress in making my own beats. So thank you! Now that I have the bases of laying down a track I would like to inquire vocals to the track. I been trying to experiment with some vocals I purchased on Beatport but I just can’t seem to get it right. I have trouble WARPING the vocals to fit just right into place. So I guess what my question is how do I go about adding Vocals to fit a track? And how do I warp the Vocals without them sounding funny in different places? A Video tutorial would be nice on this matter. Thank You.
You can chop up your vocals, you don’t have to keep them as one whole solid file.
Just make sure they’re close to the right warp as possible then cut them up before and after each word / sentance / whatever and place them where you need them.
Try looking up ‘live 8 warping’ in youtube, there is loads of stuff there. Look for stuff that goes on about transients.
When you are working with vocals, you have to be very careful. Thats why I dont like to use vocals from sample packs or whatever unless they are for one shots or whatever. First off, you should know the BPM of the vocal. I personally dont transpose a vocal more then 2 semitones. I can tell the difference in transposed vocals usually. So… I would record your own. Personally. If you want to use the vocals from that sample pack, you can use a vocal phrase and then you can sing over it so that you have a different tone singing at the same time. Just some ideas.
just chop them up play around, transpose, stretch do anything you want really, if you’re making dance music it doesn’t have to sound perfect like a pop song or make sense like as poem, so long as it sounds good and works with the track that’s all you have to worry about.
The method i showed in the remix tutorial for importing and sorting samples will work on standalone vocals.
just tap along find the BPM then warp at that BMP
