Hi
My computer’s hard drive is pretty full up at the moment but I have a 500 gig external hard drive. Is there a way of storing some vst instruments/effects in the external hard drive or can they only be stored in designated vst plugin folders in the C: Drive or whatever it is on the computer hard drive itself?
Thanks
I know ableton only let’s you look at one folder for VSTs. Let’s work on the assumption that you’re using that (or the DAW you are using only allows one folder)
You have two options I can think of:
- Use DFS with one of the server 2003/2008 products. Pain in the arse to setup as you’ll need windows server on a machine somewhere. What you can do though is setup a location, point ableton to it and have multiple locations (even network locations) appear as folders in that one location.
- Create a new partition on the external hard drive but mount it as a folder in your VST folder. That way the folder will appear as if it was just under the VST Folder, ie C:\VST\External Disk only when your DAW scans it, it’ll find your VST’s on the external drive.
