What a sad day

Today my first ep Jan de Jon Choose Life / A.I. came out on the irish label club educate from John Gibbons. unfortuntely when you google Jan de Jong choose life the first 2 pages are just filled with places you can download it for free and then after all hat **** you get the track it down and audio jelly etc links. Seriously the electronic music sales scene is a disgrace and these people dont realise that there helping to kill the music scene as a whole. This really really pisses me off to no end… But i guess theres nothing you can do. I sent that link busters an email about a couple of sites i know about an they replied saying thank you and that they were aware of these sites, but these sites are all still up so what good are they? I thought they were there to take down these sites?

Im gonna call for them to punish ilegal music sharing by stoning…

unfortunately only the law can take them down. and they all look to be based in russia - who don’t really seem to care

link busters will help you get the links taken down, but not the sites.

is soundarea.org in Russia? They seem to share everything from tunes to full on software etc. ***** Russians something needs to be done!

Least people think it’s good enough to want to have to download illegally, if you search Roben Road To Brighton, there isn’t any illegally download sites.

I agree though, it’s sh*tty as hell pissing on the artists who spend time and effort making the tracks, but unfortunately there isn’t anything we can do :frowning:

Lol you know whats even more annoying, on these forums where the links are uploaded you get like the forum moderators putting stuff like ‘remember to thank the original link poster’… WTF!!! Dont thank the ***** link poster thank the people who made these tracks for you and thank them by buying it!!!

yep its pretty poor mate but sadly not much we can do at all

I share your pain mate, happened on every release I’ve had, you just have to ignore it. Unfortunately, most young people under a certain age have no concept of paying for music, and the rest simply don’t care about the large investment of time and money artists put into their work. You just have to do it for the love and sense of pride in getting work out there.

Getting a track played, charted or receiving promo feedback from people you respect in the industry is the reward that keeps me going!

Congratulations on your first release though, try not to let this negative side dampen that achievement

Just want to say Jan - that its Sh!t fkn news Mate!! First day! Miserable

This is something that I’ve been thinking about for a while (and not aimed at anyone whatsoever… ) - but I wonder what the ratio is of pirated software used to make tracks shared on these sites?

It all starts at home doesnt it? Let he without sin cast the 1st stone an all that bull…

DL’n software, music, films, tv shows…

Who has honestly ever paid for a P0rn Picture? ;) :hehe:

I remember seeing some data on the sale of soundcards. The anti-software piracy organisation-  cant remember name… highlighted that sales of soundcards & speakers / monitors was increasing, as the sales of software was decreasing.

There was an equal increase of software piracy during this time.

Food for thought. Cassettes & VHS never posed the same threat due to the distribution limitations.

The internet is both good & bad… Both a help & at times; a hinderance.

If the demand wasnt there, it obviously wouldnt be there. So who keeps up the demand?

Everyone has a responsibilty.

Do you DJ out Jan? Thats where I always here the cash is to be got. I know its not only about that… The Money… but at least it will be a reward (that you can control) for your hard work

Well i do DJ sometimes, but like i produce in the hope that ill get more gigs lol, its just if your tracks sell well then you get to the promised land quicker. I mean look at Deadmau5…

It’s more about getting your name out there dude, if it’s being illegally downloaded it probably means there are people out there searching for your track, the more people who are listening to it the more people know of your name, the more of a fan base you build and thus more of a following you collect, it’s that fan base and following which gives you a standing in regards to gigs. Without being ‘heard of’ you arn’t going to be known, so you arn’t going to get gigs because you won’t attract people to the club event you’re being booked for.

Higher pay comes because you are more well known which means you’ll get more people through the door of the club, likewise more well known DJs are paid higher not only because of more people through the door but also at some establishments a higher door entry fee is also charged sometimes.

Put it this way, if you heard Sied Van Riel was playing at a club close to you this weekend, you’d be there. As opposed to some DJ you’ve never heard off called Frank The Trance Fairy.

+10

Yeah but i mean ive had a few releases, one on like a massive label in Holland. Ive won competitions and like my tracks have alot of people downloading it illegaly. Ive also had radio play on FM stations in Holland and in Ireland and got support from some big DJ’s. In spite of all this, im not really noticing alot of adds on facebook or whatever and every month i see nights here in Holland with little fags playing them who havent even had 1 track released… so its like wtf do you need to do?

Its just a bit annoying i guess… Im also starting to think its not what you know its who you know…

Where’s Frank The Trance Fairy playing ?

Please no hijacks, this is a sad sad day and more of a mourne with me thread lol…

Well put!

I had no idea who sied van riel is, i had to google it… :hehe:

Roben is right.

Besides that John, you could, if you have some time, mail all those sites like filesonic, fileserve, oron, and all other popular upload sites to remove your material. Often they will reply within 24hrs.

Check for instance for releases from Sebastien Leger and Fedde Le Grand. Those tracks aren’t as widely spread as most other big shot names.

Ive done the whole mailing sites but for every link you get deleted 3 more pop up the next day. I have always wonderd how some people seem to be able to keep their tracks so under wraps. Also how do some artists like deadmau5 get such a loyal following of people that buy his music. Also it isnt because hes a big name I mean it was deadmau5 consistent beatport succeses that helped to make him a big name…

Yeah I was thinking on the same line Jan that how does anyone keep up - I suppose big labels and film companies have peple to do it for them - plus those bot things (sorry I know nothing on internet type related program hacking etc)

Publicity is publicity you seem pretty clued up that your not going to make loads of cash on your 1st, 2nd release but a least this way your getting your name out there even if it is to a load of spotty nerds

lol so i should be happy that my little ep is plasterd pretty much all over the internet available for free?

Yes, well maybe not but…

Say you sold 100 eps that would probably mean 200 people listen too it 50 may remember your name - so say 1000 people download it illegally your going to get more exposure and maybe 200 people remember your name - wich is better in the long run you making a quick buck or playing the long game

It always makes me wonder why big film companies leak their films probably for the same reason
