So im watching the Main room house tutorial and he says hes using a C minor and he picks out the bass notes that work with it.
My question is how do I know which bass notes work with the melody?
Basicly here is where you can make use of musical theory. You could just try your way around, and try to hear what works, but knowing a bit of theory will help you work faster here. When a song has a key of C minor you need to know what notes are in the C minor scale. In theory you COULD use all of the notes in the scale, but some will sound better than others.
For instance, in popular music, a chord progression of 1, 4, 5 is used. Which means the 1st note in the scale, the 4th note in the scale etc. etc.
You can also add a 7 in the last chord before going back to the root key. Which is reffered to as a “leading note”.
Basicly if you know the key of a song you can just look up the scale and try to buiild chords/melodies around this for remixing etc.
C minor scale = C - D - Eb - F - G - Ab - Bb - C
