What do you think is the most difficult style of music to get right

Pads with delay, vocal samples or vocoder, some electric piano cords…

Any style that you don’t ‘get’.  You need to feel the music, understand what it is that makes people want to move to it, and a bit of history helps e.g. you think that you have just creating an amazing bass sound that you have never heard used in that genre only to discover that it was done to death a few years ago and by using it you are showing that you don’t know the genre.

Seriously, stick with what you know and love.

I meet a few budding house producers back in the day and when I asked them where they went clubbing they just looked at me - they actually didn’t go to any clubs!  You could tell from their music and all.

Great points. Knowing the genres, music history and other producers is soo important.

I’ve seen almost every DJ on the top 100 list and have been to almost every club in NYC, Philly, AC, DC and Miami. Did the WMC 5 years in a row. Promoted for 5 years. Been listening to EDM for almost 10 years now… The experience of this makes it so much easier for me to come up with ideas and get my music going.

I have friends that listen to EDM and friends that DJ that have never been to any clubs… and they all have horrible taste. I am constantly schooling them on the good stuff.
