What do you use?

recently i have decided to switch my preferred production style from Trance to Funky/Dirty house.

Im having trouble selecting new Vsts

What genre do each of you guys produce and which Vst instruments do you use to get your sounds.  If we all share our knowledge it may help other people on the forum to find the best vst instruments to suit their preferred genre.

For my Trance productions i was using

Battery 3

Z3ta +

Hypersonic

Pro 53

I’m surprised you never used Vanguard considering you did Trance.

When i said did trance i should rephrase it slightly to attempted to do trance.  The problem i have is that im from liverpool and the music up this neck of the woods is all bouncy scousehouse and commercial funk.  I have no inspiration here to push out a trance track.  My problem is my heart is in Djing and the only way to get out there nowadays is to push out your own tracks so i have joined this forum to learn from you guys.    Oh and i have heard of Vanguard just never used it lol

Im gonna have a look at nexus like you said to see what that has to offer.

cheers Roben

Well that makes the two of us, i’m still learning too

Massive, Minimoogv, moog modularv(hard to get to grips with but well worth the effort) minimonsta, korg MS20 are alll good for tunes where you want one huge riffy sound.

dont for get to put them through bitcrushers and distorion etc.

absynth, fm8 i use a lot for thiner sort of ambient sounds.

Thanks Phil

You have been a big help there. i will defo have a look at some of those

I would defo vouch for Massive too and I also like Rob Papen’s Predator for those current chunky electro house type bass sounds.

very good thread this!

i have been wondering similar things regarding vst’s, an i have been recommended the following, (but most are pricey) which is a kick up the bum because of the money spend on buying programs like Reason, Ableton personally, anyway here goes,

Novation V-Station

Cakewalk Z3TA+

ReFX Vanguard

NI Massive

some of which have already been mentioned so this backs up that they must be good if they are being told by different people!

I went around to my friends house last night to try and pick up extra knowledge with Ableton and what actually annoyed me was that my saved project would not play on his Pc, “because i didn’t save the samples in the same file as the project”

so can somebody help on this thought?

do i really have to put all the samples i use in the same file as the project?

My friend also had lots of vst’s and i still have none so most of the things he was trying to show were irrelevant, it seems to be a massively expandable piece of software beyond what is included so lets all keep upto date in this thread with our progress

Yo can do a “collect and save” from the file menu… this saves all your samples etc.

if your not sure if your friends have the same VSTs you can freeze the tracks.
