Hey guys
I’m fairly new to the production side of music and was just looking for a bit of experienced help please!?
I starting off producing and so far the equipment I have is…
Macbook Pro
Akai MPK49
Decent set of sony Hifi speakers
Ableton Live 7
NI Massive
NI Absynth 4
NI B4 II
NI Battery 3
Sylenth
& a few sample packs from Vengance.
Is there anything else I need to produce??
Cheers!
Looks like you have a nice bit of kit! I would think that you should be able to accomplish whatever you need with that! What do you mean by hi fi speakers though? The only recommendation I would say is to make sure that you have speakers that are “flat”. You don’t want too much color added to the sound or you won’t get a true mix. Other than that, I would say you’re good to go!

Welcome BTW!!!
One other thing! The key to making good music is to know your gear in and out. Don’t worry about stocking up on synths and whatnot, learn the ones you already have IN AND OUT! Then start stocking up!
Raymond
Thanks for the welcome man!
There just speakers from an old Hifi system!! Good advice I’ll set them to flat!
Will do man… What would be the best way go about learning how to use the synths?
I know playing around with them will teach me about that certain parameter but is there a way I could learn the the synth properly? So if I was talking to a pro engineer I’d be able to speak his lingo? Cheers for the help bud!

Talent and inspiration, HW&SW are not prerequisites!
Kaz, I would learn basic synthesis first. Anything that you learn will be able to be applied to anything you use. Start out with the Mark Knight tutorials. They cover some basic synthesis stuff like creating basses, leads, stabs, fx, etc etc. Once you get the hang of that, move on to more advanced stuff. The Fidget house tutorials do great things in explaining how to get all those funky bass sounds used in the genre. Also, if there’s a certain sound your after or trying to recreate, don’t hesitate to ask! There are tons of very talented people on this forum that are always willing to help!

Someone recommended a great book the other day that was some sort of complete guide to dance music production. I can’t remember it off the top of my head. Anyone? None the less, it explains in detail everything you could ever want to know about dance music production!
Talent and inspiration?? Can I get these on Amazon? :D:P
Will check out them Mark Knight tutorials!! Yeah anyone know the name of this book? Would be well interested in having a read! Thanks for the info, well appreciated!
Welcome to the forum buddy. Like Raymond said, if you have any questions just ask. Everyone is here to help each other out. Looking at your gear you should be all set up and good to go except for a few things.
The first thing to do is get a subscription to Sonic Academy. Its the best $90 you could ever spend.
Next, you need to get a better pair of monitors. I bought KRK Rockit 5’s and I love them. Good monitors mean a world of difference in music production.
Lastly, pick up the book “Dance Music Manual” Second Edition by Rick Snowman. It is a great handbook for anyone into music production and sound. In it, they explain everything from sound creation, to music theory, to hardware, etc.
Thanks Howie! Kaz, that’s the name of the book! Howie was the one I heard it from! He did it!
Raymond :hehe:
Thanks Howie! I don’t have 90eur just yet but might go for the months subscription. Is there any difference other then the obvious?
Cool, yous hardly know where I could get that book in Ireland, no?
Again thanks for the advice! :exclamationmark:
I’m in the States, so it was 90 American Dollars, so like 60-70 Pounds for you. I know you can get the book on Amazon pretty cheap. Thats where I got it.
I’ll have a look for it anyway!!
I just subscribed there now and I just watched a tutorial on how to get a Crookers sound and already I’ve grasped a better concept of how synths work!
I’m going to go through the music production tutorials even though I think I have the basic idea on how to make a track. Where should I go from there??
I’ll sell you inspiration for $40 a week if you like. It will take the form of kind thoughts and motivating emails
Welcome to the board!
Thanks Raymond but don’t think I can buy from the US Amazon and its not listed on the UK site but I’ll try HTFR or some of them!
