What is a good mic for recording trance vocals?

I am going to college soon and I am incredibly eager to practice vocal tracks (especially since I will, without a doubt, find plenty of good vocalists there). The problem is that I will be living in a dorm so it will probably be noisy at most hours and I really won’t be able to put any acoustic foam around the room and it will also obviously not be an acoustically treated room.

So what kind of mic/mic equipment do you think would be good and make up for this kind of environment? My budget is kind of low, only like a few hundred, but as long as any noise or distortions are fixable on the computer i’m fine with that.

Thanks for your time

Thank A LOT for the links man, I learned so much about mics and recording. I decided to buy the rode nt1a anniversary package, it seems to be very good for vocals. One thing though, for the popshield i need to get a stand i think but i am not sure if i’ll have room for one in the dorm, do you have any suggestions?

My recommendation is to check with your school. Most colleges have broadcasting programs along with a professional studio. See if you can get in good with them and use their equipment. It could also help you for when you finish your tracks and maybe get them on the school radio.

No problem. IAs a fellow student I know how tight money can be, so I always try to take the road without spending my lunch money. I gotta save that for the cafeteria bully. hehe
