I’ve seen a lot of stuff recently on using transient designers.
As per the topic can someone give me a quick run down of what they mainly do, and in what cases you’d consider using them?
Not that I use one a lot - apart from the stock one that comes with Logic:
But my understanding of them is that they are basically like an Envelope. You can bring out the attack or release - or shorten it.
I’ve seen them mainly used on Kicks & Snares. They can bring out a click or a snap, by adding to the attack, or transient.
Thats my understanding of how they work.
I use it mainly for taking off the front of things, such as kicks, in order to make them sound more “doof” than KICK. If that makes sense. Thats what it allows you to do. Sometimes I’ll use it to shorten a sample… kinda like a gate effect. You are not compressing anything… its just lets you bring out certain aspects or smooth down others… so the base sound stays the same. Its pretty much an envelope.

so it is a compressor . i wonder what is the differences apart from attenuating the attack or decay
Fascinating. Does it come with the latest update of Logic or something? I’l have to look and see if my version has it.

I suppose it kinda is - its got a threshold & gain on it - But it is slightly different I think.
Its called Enveloper…
looks like a compressor to me :hehe:
Wheres the fkn sidechain input then?
(joke)
That’s it? Darn, I haven’t used Logic as a production tool in so long I forgot what that was. It seems like Logic has some pretty cool things in it’s arsenal that I never realized they had. I might want to revisit some of those things when sound designing. Interesting tools!

Is it a compressor - its more like an envelope / gate / expander??
It’s a compressor with a typically fancy “apple” name
Just jealous beacuse all the plugs in Ableton looks like they were designed by a Radio Ham
I’m still trying to figure out how to pronounce it! En-vel-o-per. En-vel-o-per. En-vel-o-per…
Eh, I give up. It’s a Mussi-er!

I use one all the time, on percussion, leads, bass, pads, they can really help shape a track and bring things out in a mix. SPL’s one is the best, try a demo
