When erxporting a track for mastering

How many -db’s should it be at? Sending one off today

between -3 and -6. But closer to the latter I think

oh, and congratz

mastering engineers want headroom. i would stay around -6ish with a peak of -3.

master it yourself so u have full control of your sound!

NO WAY!!!

Wayne doesn’t have anywhere near the gear needed to do a proper mastering job, including the know how. I would bet that even the admins of this site don’t do their own mastering. Just something you should leave up to someone that has dedicated their life to the artform.

Agreed with Howie

what howie said.

it’s a skill in and of itself. Some producers do master their own stuff but it’s the exception AFAIK.

besides most good mastering engineers have a sick analogue set up that they run the tracks through that can’t be matched digitally.

cheers guy. no point it doing mastering myself when there is a label doing it.

I have tried it before with off results but its a whole new ball game imo

AFAIK?

As Far As I Know = AFAIK

Did you ask the label (and their engineer) what they’d prefer? Just curious if it matches up

no, all they told me was a 16bit wave, I know the label use label wrox however

16bit?!? I find that surprising.

as did I but thats what label wrox requested
gofunk (18/02/2011)
as did I but thats what label wrox requested
UHHHHHH…:ermm:

16bit dude? I would review who you’re sending your work to.

no need for that howie. they want me to do a remix they can master it how they want, thats just how label wrox work as I understand it

16 bit is a bit wierd though

Yeah, shifty ones. Every label I have ever talked to wants 24bit. They also said they master on Ozone too, right Wayne?

I’m gonna side with Slender on this one.

I have to agree with both Slender and Howie here.

Even though they are mastering it, why would they not request a higher grade bitrate?
Did they give any specific reason?

nah, its a fairly new label, the use a service called label wrox for distribution and mastering and thats what label wrox as for as standard. Thats all I know.

Clam down fellas, its really not an issue. But if you really wanna know more as to why check out http://www.label-worx.com/ and I’m sure you’ll find out
