After absorbing many hours of tutorials on the subject of Groove patterns and swing i’m left wondering when I should be applying this feature? There does not appear to be any consistency on any particular genre type that the tutors favour different methods of fine tuning their beat patterns. Some don’t use grooves at all, some just tweak the velocities of the notes or beats in the midi track and some do both. I understand the concepts and what they do, but with my own stuff i’m left wondering whether I should be bunging in grooves from the word go, do it at the end during arrangement time or just playing around with velocities. Is it all just a matter of taste / personal preference?
