Hi Guys,
I’m looking to replace my Tascam FW1804 Firewire audio interface and wondered which different interfaces you guys use and which you can recommend?
I have a budget of £500 so I’m looking at the MOTU 8pre right now. Do any of you guys have one of these? If so are they worth the money?
Cheers,
Simon
what do you need input output wise?
im loving the sound of the focusrite stuff… the preamps on the saffire range are special.
iis the tascam yoke not a controller as well?
I’m looking at 8in/out…
The main thing I’m looking for is firewire and quality sound at low latency.
tbh honest the latency im getting on the mac with focusrite isnt as good as it could be but sound quality is in a different league. the mice pres ring with pure musical delight and the stereo out sound is epicly spacious and defined.
I havnt checked for new drivers in a while so latency could be sorted. still only like 14 ms on 256.kb
Which model of focusrite do you use?
saffire pro 24
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
I use the motu 2308 mk3, cant go wrong with it
I’ve been using Native Instrument’s Audio Kontrol 1 for close to four years now. Its never let me down.
I’m using the Apogee duet, with logic, seems to work for me, awesome sound quality.
The MOTU Ultralite would work out great for you. Tons of ins and outs and low latency. I used to use it, but I switched around till I got something that I really like. Right now I have a Presonus Firestudio. Its rack mount, so it might not be for everyone, but I LOVE it. Its easy to use, sounds absolutely amazing (just as good as the MOTU), and I have low latency if I need it.
hate to revive an old thread but what are some suggestions for more of an entry-level audio interface?
I’m working primarily in Ableton and Logic on a macbook pro. I’d like to get the most bang for my buck.
Don’t need too many inputs as I am mostly working with Midi (90-95%)
Not sure what my future aspirations will be by expanding from there…
I’ve budgeted around $200-250 USD.

I second that
Hmm, I was looking at that, but went for the Audio 4DJ instead.
The Phono inputs seemed more useful and a few bob less.
However I did see a deal for the Kontrol 1 with a Novation remote SL 25 midi keyboard and a license for NI’s Massive (which I love) for just £280. Thats £100 more than the Audio 4DJ on its own.
And only £79 more the Kontrol 1 on it’s own.
Seems like a pretty amazing deal to me. In fact why did I go for the Audio 4 DJ!!!
My order hasn’t been fulfilled yet, so I still have chance to change it, which if the Kontrol 1 is good, then I might just do.
I can always get photo splitters for the 1/4 inch outputs I guess!

M-Audio, Fast Track Pro. IMO.
I’m just saying that because I have it
if the audio never leaves the virtual world it doesn’t matter what audio interface you have.
You only need good AD converters for and Mic Pre Amps if your recording.
No point buying apogee or Motu if you do everything in the box imo…

+1
what about when bouncing out to wav, isn’t that a similar process in reverse?
