Which Headphones for mixdown?

hi all

I’m about tu get new headphones. til now I heard good feedbacks about sennheiser hd 650 and akg’s.

As I hit the studio just 1-2 times a month I do rough mixdowns with my headphones.

Then, when heard throughout the speakers I want that the difference is as small as possible as with my headphones, to avoid 2 seperate mixdowns.

I know, it’s not recommended to mixdown anything with headphones, but I can’t change it for now.

which ones do you use and how near to high standard speakers do they sound?

I bought some HD 650’s. first impression, very clean and well balanced sound.

but anyone know why the volume is considerable lower than 2 pairs of pioneers I used before? One was HD-1000 the other one even cheaper.

it’s kinda annoying… anyone?

Not that I have had either pair off headphones but that does not sound right - no reason one should be significantly louder/quieter than the other - sure you don’t have a loose connection

How loud headphones are depends on the impedance. Low impedance headphones (75 - 150 ohm ish) will be loud when plugged directly into you audio interface. High impedance (200 - 600 ohm ish) will need a headphone amp (or be really quiet).

I can vouch for the HD 650`s, i love them alhtough recently one of the connectors on the headphone cable has gone.

I have had them for well over 4 years though and thats the first issue and thats my fault, luckily they are only about £30 to replace, perfect

just read that the impedance was 300 Ohm. maybe that’s why then?

I used to use some Senhieser HD 25’s then bought some KVR KNS 8400 there was a definete volume difference between these two headphones. I suppose they are for different purposes. The KVR’s are still load enough for studi work though so there was no problem.
