i can pick one from the site, any one, so which one do u all think i sould get for a progressive/tech house producer?
Hey Dean,
I think Wave Alchemy are the biz.
I’ve got a few - The Drum Tools 01 is seriously class. Its Min / Tech House style.
Theres a Deep Tech & Progressive Pack… that I think Jon Fisher might have. I think he recommended it a while back.
Theres loads here on the page - http://www.loopmasters.com/label/show/4
I got their 808 and 909 packs a while back & didnt like them at first… but I’ve been using them a bit recently. I think they’re very good. You can buy them both in the Drum Machines 02 Pack.
They dont do loops - its mainly all single hits.
i have the electro 1… its oK. vengeance is better.
Just get yourself CM and/or FM magazine each month, they have great samples!! In FM mag the best samples are usually in the ‘extras’ folder if memory serves me right, saves you forking out £30+ on something that you may end up finding you barely use.
In this months CM mag i got 1000 royalty free beats, basslines, one shots, fx, pads, riffs, leads, multisamples, etc and it only cost me £6, the mag is good too.
Just be sure to take a look at the ‘license’ as on the occasion some of them arn’t allowed to be used commercially, however thats more often not the case so I wouldnt worry too much.
Make your own - not that I do
yes i agree, make your own samples. i dont either.
Sample them from other people who make them…
TBH I cannot remember the last time abought a sample pack - there is enough free ones with a creative license - and 35 quid for a pack where I probable won’t use anyway seems a bit dumb
The ones I actually use the most are the 808 / 909 sounds…
I like the fact that the wave alchemy ones sound nice & full.
Think im going to go for the wave alchemy… i get anyone free anyway because i came third in the 4am remix competition… so i had no idea what to pick… i never usually buy packs either but since its free i just wanted to know what the best option would be. .
i would go for either waves alchemy or thomas penton’s drum sounds both easily the best drum sample packs i’ve heard

I have the Thomas Penton Essential Drums and Percussion and it is really excellent.
I’ll have to agree with jpgetty and others.
The problem with sample packs is that they have a bunch of sounds that sound close to the one you want, but not quite. It’s a hell of a lot of work to get them to sound properly yours. What I do is typically every original I make, I render out a couple bass and wobble sounds through stems. I’ve got like 100 in a folder, and bust them out whenever I need 'em.
The one thing I would say is if you’re going to get a sample pack, always go for drums. Those are much harder to whip up then a synth.

Don’t know if i agree with that 100%, personally the only samples i ever use are drum and percussion hits but i still buy sample packs and mainly ones with loops in that never get used, more often than not they are only ever dragged in the the sequencer for inspiration and to me when the brain goes dead its work far more than £30-£40 to get it fired up again.
