Which Moog?

Can software vst’s really do as good a job as hardware?

I’ve never tried a hardware moog but am aware of the bass sounds they can make, I love the nice warm sub bass you hear in tracks from them.

So can the likes of Minimonsta or Minimoog V compare? (and what the differents between monsta & V?). For thoses of us who want the sound but can’t afford the real thing which should we go for? If software cant cut it the should we go for somthing like SampleMoog which has real samples from the full hardware range?

I’d like to know what everyone thinks on this topic:#

never in a milloin years

get a vst version because its cheaper. it will sound cool but compared to the real thing it will sound crap

go and try one at a shop you’ll come in your pants :hehe:

is the differents really that big? I’ll be sure to check one out next time I’m up town.

But surely the SampleMoog would be as good as the real thing as its 32bit samples from the real moogs? Only down side is you cant “make” your own sounds (plenty of sample tweeking to be had & endless layering opts).

Have to agree I have minimoog vst - sounds ok - but never like the real thing

yah i mean… u thinK u can get something similar until you try it…

the sound that you get from analogue is just warmer + louder. no doubt about it.

the bass that you get from a MOOG is insane. i have only scratched the surface on mine.

I have a Moog Little Phatty Stage 2 Edition.

I actually use it as my main midi keyboard… but its also a synth GOD. :stuck_out_tongue:

I would love a voyager. But thats gunna wait until I actually sign a track…

UV: How do you sit down without knocking all the guitars over :hehe:

lolol. usually i have the acoustic sitting on my lap when I’m writing…

the rest of em I just push it off to the side. lol i had 2 get em all in the pic tho! :hehe:

Has anyone compared a the samplemoog to the real thing? this I am very keen to know about?

wayne… im not saying you can’t get similar sounds from a soft synth like samplemoog.

I am sure that it does a good job of mimicking a minimoog or a voyager…

Heck, you can even get a lot of MOOG sounds in sylenth if you know what your doing.

But none of that matters. Because its not an analogue signal. Its a soft synth…

An analogue signal is louder + warmer. I literally have to turn the volume down big time just so that it doesnt blow out my monitors. It has to do with how the signal is created.

If you don’t believe me… considering i actually have a MOOG & use soft synths all the time…

I dunno what to tell you.

But the samplemoog looks good 2 me. Its sample based so I bet it sounds OK.

its probably a CPU whore like Trillian.

The best part about having a real mooG is creating your own samples tho. thats all.

How do you work with all those Guitars in the fkn way UV? :w00t:

i just woke up.

Would have to agree, Moog hardware SLAMS software. Especially older Moogs. Just like any vintage piece of gear, you’re getting the boards that were made in a different era on different machinery, etc. EVEN if you said, ya know what, we’re gonna start remaking the Minimoog Model D or Arp 2600 or (place your vintage synth here), you’re not going to get that sound.

In my opinion though, I do think Trilogy and Omnisphere make great emulations. Not the same, but pretty good.

While we are here
