Why are there no female DJs on DJ Mag's top 100 list?

Fairly interesting article

So by this logic… is the opposite of this true?
I guess maybe the whole unbalance is something to do with the fact that it’s only in the past 5 years that most venues have acquired CD decks, so you no longer have to play from vinyl, which is heavy to carry. Maybe that’s why there are so many more men at the top. They’re better at carrying heavy things.
Miserable that there isnt more in the top 100 - but in relation to using Annie Mac as a yardstick for “good music” - Nah… its Rubbish music.

However… I’m sure theres loads of equally sh!te music being played by the Top 100 DJ’s - so yeah… she deserves a place for being equally sh!t.

I think one of the important things is whether or not they release music / produce. Lots of my favourite DJ’s are Producers… or rather, I enjoy listening to the DJ sets of my favourite producers. This is cos I wanna check out their influences, and have respect for their taste.

With the exception of Maya Jane Coles… I dont know of any female DJ / Producer that I look out for. There was a producer called Scarlett Etienne or something a while back… DJ, Producer & good looking. Her tunes werent great though.

Miss Jools has done some great stuff too.

But all in all, I think I would take an interest in ANY DJ - if I liked their productions first. Without that, its all a bit random.

Wish there was more… but I cant do anything about that.

ICN has a valid point, look at the Top 10 list, all those artists have released countless tracks, hit after hit, this is why they’re in the Top 10. Everyone knows (or should know by now) that the ‘Top 100 DJ list’ is actually just a ‘Top 100 Producer list’.

Even then, it’s not that they’re the best producers out there, i’m sure there are plenty we’ve never heard off, but people vote for who they love the tracks off. Look Avicci has only DJ’d for 2 years, he had to take it up for his gigs, now he’s number 6 in the list. Do you think half of the people who voted him have even seen him DJ? For all we know he could mix like a trainwreck (im sure he doesn’t but it’s for example) but he’s still number 6 because of his tracks.

Sure Annie Mac has done well for herself, but instead of moaning she’s not in the list, how about create some tracks and get some commercial success with them, that’s the only way into the list these days.

After all, if it was DJ skills alone then the Top 10 would be full of DMC champions.

the dj top 100 is wank anyway. is it still rigged??

it used to be credible in the 90s but now its a farce.

what you guys say about production, guetta doesnt write his own stuff does he? doesnt he get someone else to do it for him? and hes top of the pile lol :hehe:

@Mussi - Yeah - totally man.

Isnt one of Guettas “ghosts” a french female producer? LOL

There was an interview in SOS there a year or 2 ago if I remember correctly

If only she DJ’d

I like the DJ top 100, i think wether its your DJ skills or production skills it shouldnt matter and come together. What i dont agree with is people who dont even produce their own tracks getting in it…

Cos then its like, what have YOU actually done…

The dj mag top 100 is manufactured :hehe:

The trouble is concerning producing djs is unless you do not have a real job it’s really hard to find the time to do both

You have to be popular to be in that list. Simple as it is.

And you are right slender.

Seen an interview by Afrojack and there he said he rents private jets just not to waste valuable production time. So he isn’t earning what he could, but he stays on top of the game.
