Does anyone know why there are no techno nights in London?
I mean proper harder techno - there are lots of nights that have the gentler, minimal, tech-house kind of stuff - but not ‘proper’ techno like say Laurent Garnier or Spartaque etc would play!
Surely there is a market for a small night in a club with a capacity of say 300-500?
Why does no-one do a techno night in such a large, cosmopolitan city like London?

1.Dj’s prefer to play popular and on demand music that make them $.
2.London is expensive, many people struggle in recession (working 2 jobs, unemployment etc.)
3.Hard techno, hardcore is played more likely in Netherlands, where there are fans.
Oh there are a few - when I come across them i will post for you mate - I am a bit old to go too the harder nights - so cant remember - I think some where in Hackney has hard nights
Went to see Jeff Mills at cable the other week - was wicked
The techno scene is defiantly coming back - I mean in Oct and Nov as I cant cane it every weekend I have to decide who and what I going to go too
Yeah, i’ve done a bit more research since i did the original post, and i’m thinking what it is, is that because the people involved with the techno scene generally want to keep things a little less commercial, and a bit more underground, the ‘proper’ techno nights are not advertised and openly promoted quite as much as say, deep house nights, or standard housey type nights etc.
So now that i’ve tried digging a little deeper and looking for nights in venues that i’ve never been to, with DJ’s that i’ve never heard of etc etc - i am finding that some of them are techno nights and they seem like they might be good nights on the info i have managed to find so far!
Think the problem was that, i kind of got sucked into just going into the ‘easy’, ‘safe’ nights - were you know for sure that it’s gonna be a nice venue, lots of people, slightly more accessible and commercial music, etc etc.
Think i need to dig a little deeper, and take some more chances going to more off-beat nights, where there may be more risk of them being **** - but sooner or later i have a feeling i will stumble on a night, or scene, that is amazing but is still a bit more underground and under the radar etc!
I’m going to start putting myself about at some nights that i wouldn’t normally think of going to - see if a can find something really good going on out there in London!
