to be fair the kid that did it is only about 6 maybe 7 at most i’ve managed to figure out most of the wires but its trying to get a full speed connection that pisses me at the moment. i pay around £80 a month to sky and all im getting now is the speed of free broadband lol.
Sound - Dont mean to question you Jon - But are the wires definitely the right way around etc…
Only ask - as I fitted a new phone line recently & I had to go back twice & changed the way I had them before the BB worked properly in my Music Room.
Whoever the Genius was who designed this Wire - 2 Blue & 2 Orange - with very little to distinguish between Blue 1 & Blue 2 etc… deserves to be sterilised.
I ended up taking it out in the end… but thats a whole different boring story
Just a tip for anyone btw… that is thinking about adding a Phone line to their Room for Broadband…
Ethernet Cables are dirt cheap - 6 quid for 30meters. I bought one & took it from the Modem in the sitting room, through the attic & dropped it down the wall to my room. Much faster than using a Wireless Dongle - and you dont have to installl any 3rd party software. I couldnt get my old Wireless Dongle to work with Snow Leopard.
I’d recommend it over messing with instaling phone wires / sockets etc… as its then just a case of Plug & Play (after you install your Modems software)

Its also more secure I am a big fan of cat5 cable
Ha! Cat5! LOL - This is the 1st conversation that I’ve ever had about Ethernet cable…:hehe:
But Yeah - Totally right Man… and it worked out really well.
Thought there might be an issue over that distance… but they work really well stretched all over callcentres & offices, so it must be ok.
If you know how to put a plug in a socket, its the job for you!

yeah wires are correct i just need them to have a cleaner connection, all it is is the cable on the external of the house that comes up from the ground and is the main feed into the house, the little **** pulled off the cover and pulled the wires out.
when i went to the wire and looked there were only two (white and blue) that had joiner clips the other wires were rolled and taped out of the way so my guess was that only those two wire were in use because i don’t think he would have ripped the wires out and then taped the others up for a laugh lol.
