So I have started my first proper Pop/House tune. I’ve listened to loads of stuff and am not happy with this yet … any tips?br

Cheers, John
-Get a different kick, it sounds crappy.br
-Some more sidechaining on the bass would pump the entire trackbr
-I dont like the extra snares after the buildup at 2:11, just having the vocal chop would put more emphasis on the drop and buildupbr
-Overall it needs a lot of work, different instruments, better mixing
Cheers for the feedback … I’ll take a look at the kick but I felt that it fitted the whole pop/house genre …br
br
I agree on the snares, they do distract a bit … I’m still tweaking the whole thing so it’s all good, I’ll try a version without :)br
br
I did a “mix B” last night (before I read your comments) I’m gonna post it anyway though! br

Going for a Calvin Harris type vibe and I still need to work on the vocal, may get a friend to sing it as my voice doesn’t fit really! :Dbr

Nice melodys! Everything is sounding very dry. You shold create some deepness with reverb and put a bit fx on the sounds. a bit of delays here and there maybe. The break is as well not that uplifting before its get to kick again back. Out some cool uplifter and filter them good. Just be a little bit braver using FX,and automate a little to make everything sounding more interesting. I belive if you do that right everything will sound more “sexy” and the track will get that missing something! Anyway very nice composition!
two words: parallel compression.br
br
Add some parallel comp. to your drums, really!
Cheers guys,/PPI totally forgot about parallel compression (duh!) it’s added a bit more bounce to the kit now!/PPLooking at effects, am putting some automated reverbs in to make the first build a bit bigger and layered a synth in that is drenched to give it a bit more body. I have removed the snare hits from the break and it has created a greater sense of development to the structure …/PPIt’ all coming together nicely, I’ll post an updated WIP soon./PPJ
Hey matebr

Good effort, I agree with much of what has been said above. Sidechaining some of your elements especially your bass will help, and try adding reverb or delay to some of the tracks in the mix. Also a bit more of a sub bass could help. br
br
Try thinking about the sounds your using and where in the frequency spectrum they fit, your bass should be sitting in the low frequency and not clashing with other higher elements of the track. Seen as you’re a subscriber I highly suggest you take a look at the mainroom house tutorial. Even if this is not your style it will teach you so much about how to construct a house tune including vocals and how to process them.br

Keep at it, br
