I think a monthly Sonic Academy podcast mixed and presented by Bryan and/or Phil would go down a treat i think, it could include guest mixes and tunes from Sonic Academy members.
Who thinks this is a good idea?
Sounds cool
Not sure if they’ve got enough free time to add to their present workload though
Well if they can’t then i’m sure there are plenty here that could do it, as long as Sonic HQ had given a specific ‘ok’ to whoever was to do it for them.
I do have a weekly show i have to do, but i’m sure i could put the time in to produce a show for Sonic if they’d like me too. Just let me know what they want in it and how it’s going to be structured and i’ll sort it.
Personally, I think they should focus on the content that the members pay for. Perhaps once things start flowing at a steady pace, the new website is running 100%, then maybe. But I dont think people really care. I think its more of an educational website then a “showcase your talents” or “entertainment” website.

isn’t promotion one of the biggest parts of the industry, it would educate people to the possibilities of getting your material out there.
its all well and good having a great track but if no one hears it its no good.
but i do agree with you on the the point your making about getting content pumped into the site first.
at this moment in time id much prefer to see more tuts up than getting the guys sidetracked on other projects.
Sure I can see your point Howie, but the podcast only needs to be a monthly one of say an hour or two. It alone would do a whole load of good things for promotion for the website.
And it doesn’t have to be by the Sonic team if they really don’t have time to do it, there are plenty of people on the forums here who I’m sure Kev could hand the duties to, it’s not going to cost them anything and it’s going to do nothing but benefit the site.
As bubble said, it would be a nice thing also for budding producers and/or DJ to hear their track/s and/or mix being played out to the masses and they will also be telling all their friends to listen to the show, those friends become aware about Sonic and in turn they join the website, join up, and wow… more members, more subscriptions, Sonic growth.
Every little helps right?
Sure I’d rather Sonic kept pumping out the material, I’m not saying they should do less by any means, but i’m sure there is someone somewhere each month able to compile a show for Sonic.
If needs be, the show could be compiled by instruction of what’s to be added to it by Kev (or anyone on the team), then they could review it before it being sent out. It could in that way take Sonic HQ, what, like 5 minutes of their time?? I’m sure they have 5 minutes.
I think it was TommyT who mentioned that it would be good to see a regular Sonic mix and was willing to put in the time to help out, so that’s him plus me both willing to help out the company and put in OUR time to do this.
So it doesn’t HAVE to be Sonic HQ, although it would be nicer if it was.

I disagree. The good things that are done for the site are in regards to education and value for money. It has absolutely nothing to do with a radio show. If you want a radio show, go to iTunes and download a podcast.

Once again, I feel that it would require resources that I don’t feel could be used in another situation other than fulfilling the educational needs of the other members/subscribers of the website. This would also require SA to give significant privileges to the person putting it together. Privileges that you and I both know they are not willing to give to someone like you or I.

I think a SA Soundcloud page that would be promoted on this site and/or the songs inserted directly on the website might be more appropriate and less demanding.

I doubt it.

We know that it would take longer than 5 minutes of their time. Either way, we all paid to learn. This is an educational site, not an entertainment site.

I think that if SA thought it would be beneficial, then they would be all in to get it done asap. Just my thoughts.
totally agree with you howie,
we pay for learning music… not listen it. To listen or promote music there’s plenty of tool on internet
cheers
Yeah I agree with you Howie but I know where Robens coming from.
Sure we are here to learn but it needn’t be all work and no play.
I suppose Roben is trying to form a kind of sub community but there’s no way SA are going to hand over any form of control and that is totally understandable.
So thats that out of the window then
There’s nothing stopping anyone here be it Roben/tommyt or anyone else for that matter setting something up externally though, I am sure some members here would be behind it. It just takes time, energy and dedication.
I have to agree with Howie. As a paying customer i want to see how dance music is made. The idea is there but feel they need to get the basics right then move into other area's when the site is running normal.
Fair enough then, the vote seems more against than for. Interesting to see everyones thought.
Well, the idea was there, maybe i was just wrong.

thats a good point…if somebody did do it, it wouldn’t have to be attached to the site in anyway but the S.A. site would be a pretty good breeding ground for raw talent.
id offer to pitch in but i have no idea how to do anything like that.
back to the promotion of music i actually wouldn’t mind hearing some advice on promotion from the S.A. guys or even forum members…even tho some of you guys wouldn’t agree with robens idea 100% as it stands, i think hes hit on an area that i definitely would like to learn about…in due course.
You know half the struggle is getting your music out there to be heard by potential labels, as well as listeners.
Try sending your track to - and building up a database of - various radio DJs and potential record labels.

Unfortunately, you cant teach that. You need dedication, hard work, and thick skinned for that to happen. But as said in the interviews, you should have a specific audience for your music. If you want to send your music to Mark Knight, don’t make Drum and Bass. And the thick skinned part??? Get ready for a steady dose of rejection.

I see you’re picking up what I’m putting down!
You could always try bribing Pete Tong to play your tune lol.

If that jerk ever answered my phone calls…
I think its a good idea.
hey guys,
my user account has been messed up for the last week and decided to create a temporary account. as far as this post is concerned im gonna go ahead and draw out the plans to get this rolling. its something ive been wanting to do for awhile. ill repost what i come up with soon. it will be on a soundcloud page though. all the work is going to be done by me or anyone else that wants to jump on board. ill probably link it to our sonic group page that i moderate.
