not had this for a while, its been flowing for a couple months but now I find myself with a tidy kick, bass, perc, hats etc etc some kinda chordy things going on, pads, potentail stabs but there need to be a nice melody coming in… but I can get anything that fits with the rest! annoying! My last track I came up with the first part of the melody 1st and had some hihat and’s from another tune I was workin one and flowed like **** -finished in 4 days… now I’m stuck! close to starting over! Maybe I should stick with doin some kinda meldoy first… food for thought…
And I havent seen any of the new tuts for couple o weeks excluding the thrillseekers one… change of tack I think
your brain is bored thats why its blocked, you need to get out and get inspiration.

So, its possible to write in a scottish accent.
Didnt get a ****ing word of that Wayne! LOL
Seriously Mate… go back to one of your old tracks & lift something out of it. Might breathe new life into something old & half finished. 2 wrongs make a right sorta thing!

as i learned in creativity class… you cant force it, put the “pen” down and leave until you really wana go back and finish it… not because u think you have to! i usually just listin to alot of the genre i like to get ideas… if i like a melody ill try copy it and then change it round

Aye ken wit, (yes do you know) it is but I dinny (dont) ken (know) why I’m doin it cause I’m fecking (****in) english!!!
Been here too long I guess!! lol
Dude it happens to all of us! Sometimes i write a track in days other days nothing will come out, it’s just how it works.
Listen to some tracks, that will help give you inspiration
Get a long melodic sample, chop it up into midi bits.
Rearrange them bits, then replay that new melody into a new midi clip with a synth. Hey presto new original starting point.
Try a breakbeat under that instead of kick/snare and build up to that if needed.
I love flipping things over to find a new starting point!
Load a loop from you fav sample pack and build a loop to go with it, delete the original imported loop and now build another loop to fit the first one you’ve built, delete the original loop you made and make another loop to fitthe last loop you created…
rinse and repeat until something sparks
I have also had this and from what i can gather theres nothing you can really do. Something that worked for me ina kind of way is that i went on holiday for a week. Sometimes eveything just flows nicely and evrything fits and othertimes u feel like a monkey bashing on his midi keyboard to no avail. Its extremely frustrating! Another tip is to do a remix for ****s n giggles. Also just keep at it inspiration comes and goes!
here this might help you wayne…

Hi Wayne. all the comments above are very accurate in how your brain get tired and lack of creativity takes sometimes lots of inspiration.
but there is some tip i wanted to share with u . i did some experiment trying to figure it out how to keep the flow running without having a mental block.this is some of the experiments i tried to work with to stop having mental block and helped me alot. to find the balance in how to keep working on Music without stopping.
first experiment: tried to work in a track first building the melodic parts and then the Drums
THE CONCLUSION : I had hard time trying to complete my idea of the track since i was wasting so much time , Browsing ,EQing and looking for Drum hits to make my idea complete…
I managed to finish the track but didnt have that intensity and didnt translate my whole idea of what i wanted to do .
second experiment :I tried to finish a track every week to try to work faster and became more productive taking 4 hours a day .giving myself a due date to finish the tracks .
THE CONCLUSION:
Notice lots of improvements every week, even do some of the tracks sucked , but to finishing it was an accomplishment . ,it helped me to understand that sometimes an idea can be stuck the longer u think about it .
also Phill tips about being organized helped me alot .
3rd Experiment :
i tried to think about a loop in my head and write it down my Idea.before going to work on Music .
Conclusion: the second experiment ,helped me to work fast and the conclusion of the 3rd experiment helped me to translate my ideas faster than before. knowing where u want to end helps tons. i felt more confident to choose when to work and be more productive. sometimes it took 4 hours to make an idea the way i wanted. so
So yeahh i learned lots of things working on those experiments , like producing music and knowing where u going , also i improved my Workflow at least 40%
forcing yourself to be able to write and idea before going to work will help u . and if you are tired learn when to rest. like everyone said before . that is normal , and happens to everyone .
but that doesnt mean that u have to wait for an idea to come. I am sure is the lack of sleep , too much partying , Gigs ,ETC. manages to make u believe that u have mental block. and there is no creativity . but u know when u have an idea and u arent able to translate on your DAW , becomes frustrating . making you think that u have a mental block .
dont just wait. practice and do similar exercises to improve your workflow
that is my opinion . and my advice .
anyways this is the longest reply i ever made hehe
hopefully helps you brother .
Another thing that helps me when i have mental blocks is watching the Sonic Academy tutorials, even if i’ve seen them before.
It’s weird because it’s not actually what they’re doing on the video but just watching someone doing something on a DAW, it gets me all excited / anxious to go on my DAW and i start having all these ideas in my head.
It’s weird how it works, but it just does.
masturbation can help to, “if in doubt whip it out” never fails. sa avatars can be of use sometimes

lol
All great replys guys thanks a lot and, I mean thanks
I ended up getting pissed after my mental block last night on red wine! lol rough as a badgers arse today but will defo try some o this stuff out tomorrow
another good idea for some creative juice is to spark up a nice joint, just dont get too scared when you listen back the next day sober lol.
For me its all about Jamming out. Rock Out on the Keys or Guitar for a while. Play in the key that you want your track to be in. Play with sounds & synthesis. You will figure it out just by jamming and experimenting. At least that works for me…
