georgekadar (23/07/2010)
probably a bad example of what i was lookin for…
but ozcan’s fav genre is trance
there is just something thats missing from what i would like to see in a HTSL and i cant put my finger on it!
as long as i heard the track so far this is how it is structured .
Drums
Pads
arpegiatted basslines
stabs
riffs
bla bla
bla
all of them you can see in the SA Videos . even structure . now MR Ozcan has been doing this for a while . but the basic programming is there .
but yeahh man . if you want a similar style like Ozcan you need to learn your synth well . a tutorial wouldnt teach you the experience that Ozcan have . his programming is something that makes his style unique . the best advice listen his sound and try to spend at least 2 hours every day trying to imitate his sounds with your synth . i am sure you will not feel frustrated and will learn more than you expected .plus you will create your own signature sounds :). something that i have been working in the past 3 years and still suck at it :(. but i am sure someday will pay off
I agree that I think everyone would benefit from some in depth synthesis tutorials. I often find myself very frustrated when I am unable to achieve the sound I’m after. Also if people understood the fundamentals of certain sounds I think it would be easier to experiment on different synths, instead of using the good old Sylenth1 all the time (not that I’ve got anything against it, great synth!).
But I really would like to see some more Trance stuff on here aswell. I too am more of a Trance man.
its probably just my frustration kickin in!!!
but i would still like to see more in depth new sub trancey genre tut
maybe something like this . ( probably what i shuda put instead ov ozcan )
have a listen aline. but without vocals

thats just it, the blah blah u mentioned is missing
lol
hey George and co… I just read this quote in a book that Im reading about Logic 9. It nails everything on the head what I have been trying to explain…
“Moreover, we attempt to go into the philosophy behind why Logic
works the way it works, so hopefully you will not simply learn the mechanics of how to do
something, but you’ll really understand what you are doing so when you want to explore on your own, you’ll be fully prepared—and successful!”
In other words…SA can teach you how to make something but if you dont apply your knowledge, then it wont do any good. That’s why synthesis would be a better fit in getting the sounds you are after as well as paying attention to everything else you have learned. There is plenty of knowledge in the other tutorials to be able to put together a progressive trance track.
I agree with Howies point.
The more I have learnt, the more I want to understand the potential of the tools, more than the direct how to do make this sound or that.
I want to be able to think of a sound and know how to build it, rather than to learn fairly specific stuff (though this is a great way to start, and the videos are good).
More over I personally find funny people huffing about not enough trance, or no deep house when for me there isn’t that much in it.
So many more complete genres not touched before we even really need to go back to anything with a 4/4 beat imo.

And dude, I agree. However I understand the deep house thing. I remember Deep House being talked about a year and a half ago. I think it needs to be done eventually. However, trance has been done as has Progressive House, which is similar to Progressive Trance. They both “Progress” in similar fashions.
But I agree with you too. We need to learn the tools and then we can mimic any sound we want. We should delve into more obscure stuff, because IMO, that will create some truly inspiring and original music. Not this cookie cutter bull5hit that we hear left and right. Nothing against it, of course, but all the tools are there to get a decent understanding. I think that SA is going in the right direction with the Reverb and Compression videos.
On a side note, you mentioned going to Berklee. I won a scholarship to one of their online courses, starting in September. How are you finding yours?
i also agree with howies point!!!
hes a wise man.

Loving it dude. I will say though, that my productions have slacked because of all the reading and stuff I have to do. But its worth it.
