CLR / Dark Techno Production Thread

i love this thread and now i am registred member…thank you all for that

Nice idea ICN  ive come to the conclusion that im never using another sample pack again:w00t:, buy a cheep mic and start recording everything and anything and then work from your inspiration that bashing the washing machine or fridge has gave ya, its prob the only way to replicate the feeling of that raw techno that so few are doing well.

No more hi hat, snare or kick drum samples going into any of my tracks unless i create process and understand the sounds from the ground up.

More sound design/found sounds vids if possible plz:D

Record your surroundings and the music will always be different.

ok now that i see this thread has been dying … and im totally curious about some techno elements i seem to find very recurent… here’s a quick question for all of you… maybe it can spice things up : ) …

i notice in all the techno tracks , there seems to be very similar low end elements … and this really insanely DARK atmosphere …

example : Time Zones - Hans Bouffmyhre - YouTube

thoughts/opinions ? the bass sounds like a kick with a raised attack

this very dark atmosphere going on … could it be the reverb ?

Cool tune

The bass maybe a kick/tom

And yeah use of reverbs - listen to any of my tunes and you will hear I use 4 different ones - the low end ones are side chained too a kick and sometimes a perc pattern

ICN can tell you how he gets the bergy kick effect

great response slender … thats exactly what i thought… what kindof reverb do you set for this reallllly dark atmosphere… seems like all my tracks miss that exact reverb effect … it really sounds more than 50% wet. Btw slender … your tracks are out of this world!! you got some talent right there

I tend too use Lives one and free nasty sounding free ones cut out the bottom end and then maybe an exicter or flange or some distortion all in moderation

TBH I don’t really have a method - it is all trial and error

Oh thanks for you comment made my day

Hope this thread gets up and running again.

Hi all,

Firstly, I absolutely love this thread, I’ve spent hours reading it - thanks all!

Second, does anyone happen to have copies of the videos (mostly JamieinNC’s I think) that are mentioned throughout the thread? I have been in touch with Jamie and he no longer has copies of them - I’d really like to see/hear what’s been discussed!

Thanks,

Bram
