Can i have a link to this interview?
hes created his own style of music. and knows everything about music. he can be cocky if he wants, a lot of dj/producers are, sure loook at all the poses they make for album covers :L deadmau5 taks the piss outa dat!
hahaha how old is this post
MeMomAndaVirus (04/05/2010)
iam pretty shocked to hear about what Deadmau5 has been saying lately !
but i think i disagree with most of this conversation
first of all Deadmau5 isn’t a DJ …he performs his tracks live
& thats the way producers should be going now !
lets not mix up a DJ from a DJ/Producer/Live Performer/Remixer …there’s a big diff !
yes back in the days producers needed to rely on DJ’s to get there tracks heard & sold but 10 years ago most producers were producers & most DJ’s were just DJ’s
if you have been around in the dance scene as long as i have …about 25 years …then it’s all pretty boring …& its really cool that technology now allows a producer to perform his tracks live !!!
now what is exactly “good live performing” well my opinion only trance producers
really actually do hard work , since you have a sound coming in at every 8 bars “not including effects” …& 16 + channels to keep track of
where as House its more like 16 bars & the most 8 channels
DeadMau5 takes a short cut & uses 4 channels
in a reply back, i truly feel that he is kidding himself if he considers to be a live act. sure i like his music and i think his sound is of high quality but he is no different to a dj playing pre recorded material.
also for many of the “live” acts that i know have all played in clubs and events acting to pre recorded sets. i’m not going to post names because they are friends and wouldn’t want them to loose gigs through this.
unless you are playing at least one instrument then you can’t consider your self to be performing live its that simple.
people had been doing this on Logic 5.5 for years but as soon as Ableton “Live” became popular everyone suddenly became a live act
nobody knows everything about music , its a ever expanding body of knowledge my friend

Come on mate your getting old enough to know better. His own style? Yes I supose we can call his repeated 8th & 16th note synth his but it’s hardly the work of a genious. People liked it but it’s no different than Lady Gaga. You think she sticks telephones in her hair because she truely thinks it’s stylish? No it’s a money maker.
Another example would be deadmau5 making a youtube vid about “Stimming” He produces quite a bit of techno style tracks & if most of deadmau5 fans heard one of his tracks prior to deadmau5 showing a vid of him enjoying his tunes then they simply would not care about stimmings tunes. I click on one of stimmings vids on youtube to see everybody saying that this was a great tune. Before that the vid has about 2 comments from the real people who actually like the music.
Deadmau5 has really caught the attention of the teen/20 year old market & knows how to play to them. i.e going on stickam every so often to keep them happy & make them feel important while they can shout lolraape all day. He also gives the occasional 4chan reference to make people feel related… I should become a doctor with my psychology:P
About the album covers, once again this is deadmau5 acting up for the kids. It’s works for him though & if I was him I would do the same.
Having said that I do like quite a few of his tunes but there is alot better out there.
That makes me look like a hater:( lol
tommyt (04/05/2010)
wow , this post is a dinosaur, interesting user name too, im afraid to ask
hehe are you referring to me ?
what can i say man… iam a 38 year old dude that still lives with his mom :crying: …poor women what she has to listen to every day !!! …& i got my trusty Access Virus …every dance music producer should have 1
on a further note …i never heard about Deadmau5 saying those things :sick: …so iam really surprised …personally i have hanged with Deadmau5 a few times…never got the impression that he was like that
but i did see a video on his site …where he’s talking about his set-up & he has Ableton open & he’s using Max for Live to create his own plug-in & he covers it up …like its something top secret & says …i cant show this because its still in development …ohhh please !!!
what he is doing is nothing new…he was a nobody 3 years ago
yes okay his performing style is different …since he’s using the latest Midi Controller technology…i give him that …& there cool the Lemur also …& iam sure most dance producers that perform live …will eventually want to tinker around with them
but …Hallucinogen, Cosmosis & Laughing Buddha to mention just a few …have been making dance music & performing live since the dawn of computers & samplers …lol …soooo & not to sound like PsyTrance is the best …but you know ! …lol
i had to ask, at least youre saving rent money every month
2 djs stood talking to each other
1 says to the other.......you fancy going to see a film tonight?
The other says .....dunno whose the projectionist?.........:D

gotta love the Psy & Goa acts, i would be happy to at least call the Psy and goa acts that i’ve seen live acts because there were guys playing Hand drums, guitars, drum kits and synths.
deadmau5 doesn’t do this, so imo he’s not a performer and in his own views he’s not a dj so i really not know what to calll him lol
hindsite +1 :D:D:D
IMO It is for the audiences to decide who is a performer and who isn’t,
and for as long as the crowd is having fun I see questioning it redundant.
As it was proved by many musicians before or even whole genres of music (think punk) technical ability and professionalism is hardy what makes or breaks an act.

I can not agree more most crowds could not care as long as they can leave saying they had a good night
i agree with this also. it is in the eye of the beholder.
to me he’s just a guy who uses ableton to dj, and he happens to play his own tracks

instead of just worrying about the first 32 bars & last 32 bars of a track …its what ! …ok …its not live …but it’s in between …
a name needs to created for music artists that perform tracks …ehmmm how to say it now …Looping !!!:hehe: …isn’t it a Live DJ ! ?
deadmau5 rules. his music is dope…
