Dented cone! :-((((

Anyone got any tips for fixing a dented cone on a KRK Rokit 8 Monitor!! I’ve unscrewed the front, but can’t get behind the cone to push the dent out!! :w00t::w00t::w00t:

Try opening the back or taking it to a electronics shop to get a proffesional to repair it, wont cost alot as its not a major problem. How did it get dented?

I’m gutted, I was carrying it downstairs and my hand pressed against the cone for a second! They’re so damn fragile man!! I might look into getting a professional to have a look at it, but that’s gonna cost bucks!

We used to use the tube end of a hoover to suck out speaker cones - doesn’t always work but worth a try.

Yeah thanks Ant, tried that one … but I suppose you pay for what you get! It ain’t no Dyson!

I was gonna say the hoover too man… it can be a little harsh though.

Other thing would be a bit of sticky tape. Depends on what you have. Something like the heavier packaging or masking tape might give more grip when you pull.

try doing that with a bit of a rapid pull back.

I’ve seen my Dad fixing a few of them over the years, and thats what he does. He’d go for the sticky tape 1st.

i know hefty is talented but i didnt know he did gaffer tape! hope you get it sorted man

I’ve seen a matchstick with super glue on as well, but I don’t think I would do that. I think I would try contacting KRK to see if you can get a new woofer. At least that way you know how much it will cost to put it right in the worst case.

Lol try going through the back. Before anyone says it ill save you the trouble.

Thats what she said.

Didnt want to mention the glue! LOL

You can be super smart & work out what solvent melts the glue for extra kudos

I’m getting a flashback actually… THINK I seen my Dad pull a dent out with a Straw?

Yeah, just to be clear - DO NOT USE GLUE ON YOUR SPEAKER!

Haha thanks guys! I won’t be using super glue don’t worry.

I managed to unscrew the front of the speaker and pull the speaker out, but unfortunately the unit is sealed with fabric so you can’t get your fingers behind it to push the dent out!

Looks like I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and contact KRK and see what they say!

jesus!!

dude take it to a specialist don’t listen to this Noobs heheh :w00t:

I thought the cone was just a dust cap so long it is not split it should not distort the sound - i could be completely wrong though but they are called dust caps

Hear what it sounds like. My thoughts would be that it could introduce distortion or fk slightly with the higher frequencies. Depends on how fkd it is.

The shape of it is designed to assist radiate frequencies (I imagine). It might be called a dustcap, but it serves a dual function IMO… otherwise, they’d have a madonna-esque conical pyramid shaped one, or a fkn octahedron

The closer to a 1/2 sphere, the better. Depends on how *****ed it is.

That’ll teach me for trying to leave the missus in a hurry!!

Always box your monitors up before carrying! Warning to others!
