Was listening to records all last week… playing them on one 1210 as I only had one needle Got pretty fustrating by the end - as I wished I could have mixed a bit.
Anyway… Installed Traktor 3 again on the 'Puter & am thinking about getting a little DJ controller. Its just a bit of fun… so not wanting to get anything too expensive.
Was wondering what everyone here uses, and if you have any horror stories or victory tales that you’d like to share?
Will be buying something 2nd hand. Would like to get something with a SC in it. Behringer BCD3000’s are pretty affordable for a mess… as are M-Audio Xponents.
A Mate has a BCD3000 & its pretty cool. Thought the build quality was v.good for behringer - and he’s had no problems with it.
Looking at the M-Audio W.site, the support looks sh!t & several people with problems with Xponent look to have been ignored.
Bit of a general one - but just wondering what y’all use / extra HD’s / Set-ups / Advantages / Pitfalls etc…?
I’m hopefully going to have an old Laptop on XP for it… but might also use it on OSX - Snow Leopard too.
I use a Novation Launchpad and LPD-8 syncing with two stutter edits, effectrix and some basic lpf/hpf stuff, and ableton’s fade to grey.
Works a charm.
Except there have been a couple horror moments: one performance just involved the music sputtering and glitching out, which people didn’t actually notice i guess it’s because that’s sort of an effect nowadays.
But one terrible instance involved a couple of eq switches i forgot to turn off. my bass and mid were both turned off, and the audience was cheering and cheering, waiting, and i stood there yelling at front of house just terrified out of my mind for 5 minutes before i realized what had happened
Mussi81 (25/04/2011)
if your using traktor on a laptop you’ll want to run it on ya mac tbh. less latency issues with mac’s;)
Cool Mussi - Are you using an x1?
Would like one of course - but dunno, bit out of my price range atm. Jamie has got a couple of them recently… & sounds like he’s having a lot of fun with them - thats what was making me strung out also tbh :D
T3 crashed the Mac at least 10 times the other day. Had to turn the switch off to stop it spazzing out. DL’d T3.4.1 from NI w.site & its only crashed 3 times since… getting better LOL - Latency I could handle! :hehe:
Been reading that it doesnt like special characters… dunno… I’ll try editing the file names to take out the _'s or &'s.
Oh I dunno… I’ve a fkn x1 in my head now… but I’d really like an all in 1 job :pinch:
I have used one, I think my main problem with it ws that it looked like a toy, which shouldn’t matter. Also I didn’t think it has external inputs (put I might be wrong).
I have a friend with a Numark Omnicontrol which you might be able to get cheap off ebay, and this has the advantage of built in mixer section, but again I am not sure that has external inputs either. The only one I can think of that does is the S4.
I think with Traktor, easy access to hotcues is really important. It offers so much creativity (or in my case fun) if you use a controller without you are missing so much.
