Essential Mix

Anyone listen to it anymore?

I just realised that I havent looked at it this year whatsoever.

Just looked at the list going back to Jan 11 - Havent missed too much.

Since Tong went from doing the Essential Selection on Friday evenings, there seems to be (maybe I’m wrong) more of a move to “whats popular”.

Cant listen to Annie Mac’s show.

Saying that, they have Seth Troxler on it last week… but slim pickings if you were holding your breath for something different.

this was from November. NERO essential mix. I could seriously listen to this a billion times more.

Probably already have atleast 2 million listens to it.

I know its not your style… but this kinda sh*t just does it for me.

Probably one of the best dubstep/electro mixes I’ve ever heard.

Nero - Essential Mix BBC Radio 1 (SAT-11-13-2010) by Nero Essential Mix

No not at all Mate. I LOVE the essential mix. Even if I’m not listening to it, I’m glad that its still reaching out to people.

It used to be a bit of a beacon. Probably isnt as “essential” now with the internet everywhere & sh!t - but its a bit of an institution.

My gripe, just looking back at it is that there doesnt seem to be too much of a variance of styles / levels on it.

I love the essential mix as well man. But I expect stuff that is cutting edge.

I can’t stand when these “new” artists come on and spin stuff that isnt anything people havnt already heard. I expect artists on the essential mix to show what makes them special and where their musical tastes lie. It’s extremely disappointing when I hear stuff that is just what people are playing on beatport.

To your point… IMO there is just way to much tech house/techno on the essential mix.

There should be more dubstep, trance and electro. It would def spice up the schedule.

Some other awesome notable essential mixes: Eric Prydz, Daft Punk (1996 i think), Justice, Deadmau5 and Wolfgang Gartner (2010). All of those mixes have changed my life in one way or another.

UV I couldnt agree more, its widely known that the ‘famous’ essential mixes from the past has all been trance mixes.

ROFL

Make believe world of Jan :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree that since tong left his essential slot that things have changed. I tried annie but it didn’t stick, but that’s what the kids like these days and fair play to em.

I was still downloading e mixes regularly untill a few years back, especially since “mixriot” had to stop making them available to download.

Anyone remember tasha killer pussy’s and Brandon block and alex p from 96? Two quality essential mixes.

So, who had the most appearances on the show? Carl cox(techno) Paul oakenfold(trance) :hehe:

Oakie doenst count. Hes a midget.

I also saw an interview with dave Clarke and he says radio 1 have banned techno!! **** radio 1 :hehe:

LOL - I bet Jan has taken over :stuck_out_tongue:

Honestly, I don’t listen to BBC for anything except the essential mix. Mostly because that is for you UK people. However, it is in my opinion the best mix show around. It always has the most legendary mixes bar none from any radio show.

I did just hear about the LIVE LOUNGE recently, when they have peeps on.

Chase & Status did a showing recently… Anybody check it? It was awesome.

Yeah… you can get some interesting clashes on the Live Lounge with the cover.

The Artic Monkeys doing a Girls Aloud song “Love Machine” was pretty cool.

A lot of them are a bit muck tbh…

stay away from the live lounge dude!! :stuck_out_tongue: trust me my girlfriend listens to that

LOL - I agree with Mussi… didnt want to be too negative!

yah trust. im not gunna start tuning in every week. i saw chase & status post it on twitter…
