Yeah this. Obviously there are a lot of things that can happen in life that are far more important, but also it can be very frustrating learning to produce (or at least it is for me). So if you are knocking it on the head because you aren’t where you want to be, it might be worth taking a bit of time to consider.

In ‘normal’ life I’m an accountant and I run my own practice.  So in a nutshell I just don’t get the time that music production needs.  It’s taken me a while to be able to say that but there it is - I can finally say it!

As much as I want and wanted to sit down and learn, well “relax”, I’m the sort of person that wants to know the ins and outs of a cats *** so to speak!  I’ve never going to get to a standard that I’m going to be happy with little ‘spare’ time I have.  So for the money that I’ve spent so far I’d like to release it and use it for the future - whatever that maybe!

nah i can totally understand this. production is a fulltime job… and I already have a full-time job so I totally get how little time we really have. The only way i get around this issue is by going home after work and literally spending 4-5 hours a day after work. and then more like 8hrs on the weekend. It’s literally my 2nd full time job trying to be a producer. and the only reason I can even do that is cause I don’t have kids or a family or whatever and I’m setup financially where its not a huge burden to me.

nothing personal to anybody on here… but if you can’t dedicate the ammount of time needed to be a GOOD producer… then you should really just be a fan of the music or a DJ. because to Tax-Doctor’s point, its an extremely costly investment that prob wont deliver much in return. it always kind of amazes me that people think that its no big deal to write a song or learn to produce. I’ve always had a pretty good understanding of what it took to produce a track… but fck if it doesnt take forever to learn how to do it properly. I’ve been producing for over a year (full-time) with my brother (who has more time then I do) and we are just now, finally starting to get our heads wrapped around our sound/techniques. we’ve made tracks sure… but NONE of them are acceptable to me or him yet. and we still have a while to go. i think another year and we will be much closer.

i read before that it takes 10,000 hours to become a pro at something. So if you want to be a pro-producer thats 10k hours in the studio learning and producing. at 8hrs a day that would take over 3 years to reach that mark. So if you REALLLLLY want to be a pro producer/dj thats on the level of your favorite dance idols… be ready to invest your time for the long haul… cause you can’t bull
*** and manipulate your way to the top. you will get there on merit alone. if you can’t dedicate the time then don’t do it. other producers/djs/industry people can tell if somebody has put the time in.

i know i can.

so while we are sorry to see you go TaxD… i have to applaud you for keepin it real!

i had 2 stop going out all the time 2 parties & clubs. and i broke up with my girl… just to make time.
