Getting Noticed!

Hey guys,

I often see budding producers on Soundcloud and similar sites getting big hits on their tracks literally as soon as they post them, like 200 plus listens in a day. I’m not talking established artists or even particularly decent tracks. But these guys seem to get alot of hits, is it that they are SpamPests or do they have a secret? Maybe some of you more experienced guys can share your views/ideas on how to get yourself maximum exposure, without becoming a SpamPest(c)?

Cheers,

Danny.

They’re only putting stuff on Soundcloud because no label would touch them, you can be sure of that. They just want a pat on the head.

thats quite a sweeping statement.

I think posting on loads of forums, facebook, myspace and having a DJ contact list could get you up to a couple of hundred plays.

nothing wrong with a bit of self promotion… in fact its essential if you want a career out of it.

I’d agree with Phil on Soundcloud, alot of the big producers use it to post samples of their new tracks and what not, I know people like Funkagenda use it for self promotion, and why not.

I personally think it’s an awesome site for generating ideas and networking. I’m just starting out and started this post as I want to get my bits a pieces heard and critiqued more, so that every subsequent production I do will be of a higher standard and hence move me to a place where labels are getting interested.

uh huh… dont agree with that… very narrow minded comment!

its good to get feedback, good or bad. And it helps alot… there is away to get loads of people to hear ur stuff. Stats on my soundcloud page are:

And I’m new to sonic, nothing new since I joined… and the stuff I have up isnt very good in comparision to that I can do now.

In order to get this all you need to do is post ur stuff in loads of groups, u need to pay for the service to have stuff in more then one group.

Also, now this is the best part, upload a track or dj set or whatever and make it public.

Then search for people into your genre and follow them all. You can follow up to 2000 people.

Then create a set, add the track to it and make the set private. This will give you an option to send the set out… You can then send the set to the 2000 people you just followed. And as you’ve added the track to a private set, the track its self will remain public for everyone else to listen to!

Hope this helps!

wahahaha :hehe:

Hey Wayne - that’s a great tip man for getting a track out to more people. I wondered how it was done. I can imagine the ‘named’ or ‘famous’ producers getting lots of plays but I had no idea how some of the smaller ones were doing it. Very clever.

lol, yeah I dont think your meant to do that but I found a loop hole! I guess now I posted it on here everyone will be doing it!

Q.Why stick music on Soundcloud or any other social networking tool, rather than send it to labels which specialise in the particular sound you’re going for?

A.You haven’t heard back from the labels. Either that or you’re a total ****tard.

ok so what if you know ur tune are not good ebnough for a label but u just want some feedback… duh, thats why

ur a bit of a twat on this subject eh! someone asked for some advice and help and all you can do is slate them.

I dont like having diggs at people and always try to stay on respectable level but u’ve really pissed for off mate. If you have nothing helpful or nice to say, do us all a fav a say nothing all at

**** off

You on the rag, champ? Jesus wept.

The simple answer is make better*****tunes. Employ your own Q.C, if you wouldn’t buy it, why expect someone else to. If you want feedback for something that needs a bit of work. Play it to your best friend, your mum anyone you actually know well, rather than sticking it on Souncloud, and pimping it 'round Facebook so that a bunch of randoms can give you some bull**** faint praise. If your track needs work and you’re genuinely lost, take it to a studio and pay for sessions to have an engineer look at it.

wow, Scott that’s pretty harsh man.

I know for certain that what I produce is not good enough to be commercially published BUT I think what I do is listenable to, some ppl will enjoy it AND I might get some useful comments that will help me develop as a producer. That’s why me, and others, use Soundcloud and similar sites.

I suspect that very few producers have the talent/connections/whatever to get their tracks commercially published. That doesn’t mean that those tracks are not enjoyable and don’t have an audience.

You have a very narrow-minded approach to networking, especially when it’s generally considered an essential tool for promoting electronic producers.

all good bud, rant over. But u are missing the point.

Put your handbags away ladies.

Going back to the question… is the best way of getting lots of ‘followers’ on Soundcloud and lost of listeners is simply by spamming forums and the like?

edit.

It’s not an essential tool, it’s an extra tool. Think about how things were done before Soundcloud, Twitter and Facebook.

If you follow the steps I mentioned and people like what they hear they will follow u back.

I actually debate whether it’s a good idea putting things up on soundcloud. I’ve heard some labels are a bit funny about taking a track which has already been played on Soundcloud?

What’s the beef?

Ive a couple of tracks reserved because they’re good enough to be signed and not really sure i should be putting them on Soundcloud… ?

You’ve already offered it for free. No label’s going to touch that.
