I need help getting started i have watched beginners tutorials but not done anything i tryed the cord and scale plugin but the hotswap did not change name like in the video the presets am interested in the drum and bass tutorial but dont know how to follow it to make my own i used to slice to single sampler but got stuck with just one loop i try play i normally come up with a three to four key bass riff but thats all i add some pads but am not sure if its in time or key i would like to create my own blend of hiphop and techno and drum and bass i know who the champions are but i would like to try my own hand please advise mervyn

I think you maybe need to just keep practicing thew main elements of the track.
Drums, Bass, lead.
Once you are comfortable with those sections move on to arranging it out.
Do you play keyboards? If not it might be an idea to get some simple keyboard for beginners type books to get used to playing chords… this will really help with all the musical bits.
Thanks phil for replying your right i should work on the drums bass and lead am not trained in keyboard but i know the basic c major tone semitone the tutorial keeping in key is great and the scale and cord plug ins , i have watched a number of tech tips begining with number one, am thinking drum and bass tutorial and actual open my ableton and work along side thanks phil sonic academy

Phil about the drum and bass tutorial i try to extract the files a problem is preventing this folder from being encrypted _macosx so what do i do i have them on my computor but in ableton when i click on them it comes up in ableton some files i missing plus you need the ana which i have to buy but not yet please advise phil

I sorted the problem i was saving before but then i opened instead and it had the modules with the soundcards kick perc etc, i used to slice to midi with single sample but could only make one loop how do you add other samples to the loop i have already its really hard do you do remote support here it would be a good idea please advise

phil am coming down with a cold have not done much but playing in key tutorial with the scale plug in but i can not come up with a lead and bass part that sounds half good , phil am into sampling i have the sampler in ableton i slice to single sample and come up with aloop but can not do anything else like add other parts what do you think phil i know you said keep to the basic drum lead and bass, but am having trouble writing in the lead and bass parts even with the c minor playing in key trick and scale plug in its tough any advise phil my friend i just love the drum and bass tutorial but some parts i missing plug ins the ana synth i have to buy that when the times right phil i believe you can do something wonderful by teaching me.
Phil i have not heard from you lately too busy i had a email from someone from sonic i was really nice to get a message from her, but i was on the ableton and i felt i was murdered because i did not get anywhere fast i used to have more fun not knowing what i was doing playing in key tutorial i copyed it and saved it now i open recent set and am lost you should write in the notes its a two bar length can extend it to three or four whatever you want the cpu i got a m audio fasttrack boy its tough.

Im sorry you are having problems but really you need to start with the basic tutorials like Ableton Intro for beginners and work your way up.
Its not going to be easy at the start but you will get there in the end… dont forget ive been doing it for more than 20 years.

A lot of times the way I go about making a melody is by tapping out a rhythm I like and then moving the midi clips around on the piano roll
I’d highly recommend watching this video as well as downloading the resource pack. It has a scale template within the resource package that I use on almost every song its extremely helpful

I have not logged in lately but i did today doing what i would like to do on ableton live 8 is not going to be easy music is hard to master but ableton makes enjoyable i checked out the intro for beginners ableton great tutorial one of the best so i started to build a track using 909 drum set and drumrack i added a bassline but became stuck very soon after i will keep trying am still novice thanks james for the tip well noted will check in soon.
How do parts co exsit how do you add parts of a audio track to another audio loop without it sounding a mess trying to make hiphop mervyn i get a audio loop but do not know how to add parts to it please advise i know its not in the training videos but it a questions i have to ask please advise.

philjohnston i dont know about links with youtube but giving you an example well i got 352 breakbeats which i purchased slow them down speed them up, have as backing track, i play around with them pick one and try to make a track with it i get aloop from slicing to midi single sampler but the loop is just one loop by its self about adding parts to the loop to make a track how parts co exsit i have no clue i know abeat on top of a beat is out of place so how do those hiphop artist do it philjohnston thanks for putting up with me any ideas on my problem.

I think you are being trolled Phil… When does a question about getting started with music production turn into being gay from the West Indies and running with bulls in a life you dont want? Im sorry if i misunderstood, my advice is to mabey not just write random blobs of text without commas and fullstops and just watch all the videos on here starting from the beginner videos. I will give you an example of how you can formulate a question.

Philjohnston i have never posted a link before from any site so it would be my first but i will get some help with that although you could tell how its done i was on sonic today i did the beginners tutorial i still have yet to finish, phil no remote support something you should look in to i listened to the class take me away he killed it, make me wonder how good those artist are and why am so poor at making music, i almost pawned my gear for a 3d tv but did not in the end.
