…say on a weekly, monthly or yearly basis on producing music?
What gets your cash? Samples, the latest plug-in, is it hardware or midi-controllers.
Just out of interest really.

hardware 4 me. im saving 4 my moog. i’ve probably spent about 3-4k by now.
yeah I’m saving for a TI2, I got most of my stuff on the cheap, like I got my monitors from gumtree for example. my biggest spend is my PC so for I’d say. I’m at about £1.5k I think or $2400 maybe a little more
My main focus is Dj’in and producing is a hobby but in the last 12 months for both I have bought…
MacBook €850
traktor scratch pro €650
Korg nano pad + nano kontrol €100
Kontrol x1 €200
NI Komplete 6 €400
A desk €200
maybe 6 sample packs at an average of around €30= €180
my sonic academy subscription €100
And I’d say roughly around another €200 on various cables, magazines and miscellaneous.
Jesus H Christ… Iv never looked at it like that before.
That has really put things in perspective for me.
But admittedly this is my first year of producing and digital dj’ing so in the next 12 months I won’t spend a quarter of that… I hope haha
Most of my money spent is on modules for my modular. That is spent piece by piece though. So it really depends on my money situation.

Its alright dude, no sweat. We all start somewhere, so ask away.
I am into something called modular synthesis. Its kinda an advanced form of synthesis where you buy each piece of gear and do all the patching yourself. It basically gives you an infinite amount of routing options.
Have you ever seen those synthesizers from the 60’s and 70’s where it looks like there is spaghetti all over the walls? Thats what a modular is, and thats what I’m into. It’s definately very very advanced and takes a while to wrap your head around, but on the flip, its very addictive and very gratifying.
Almost all sample libraries; it’s a terrible habit, because it seems like a great deal, but there are only like 20 usable basses or one-shots, coupled with some god-awful “HOuOuOuse MusiK” faux-sexy vox.
Secondly come VSTs, and lastly hardware. I also spend a bit on the promotional side, 2$ per day on Facebook (which is quite costly but worth it) and 12 bucks a month for soundcloud.

I couldn’t afford the cables lol
Thanks for filling me in
If you want a way in the Korg MS-20 is semi-modular and there is a very good VST that is only $50. Obviously not the same thing as a fully modular hardware synth, but worth the money I think.
F*cking hell I wish you hadn’t asked this as just worked out within the last year I have spent £2390 and that doesn’t even inc the £1500 I have just spent on a macbook pro and I think I have forgot a few things!..lol
Damn, now I had to run my costs as well and now I feel like garbage.
I just started last year and after tabulating everything up it came around $5,000.
Never realized that’s how much I spent since it was in pieces.
Wish I could spend money on stuff, I’m a broke student though.
