How to Make....in the Arrangement view

Hi

I was wondering if we could see a how to make tutorial done using primarily in the arrangement view.

Ive talked about this on here in the past and I think one of the tutors said they thought it was a good idea.

Tutors - is it personal preference to use session mainly? Would you usually compose a track this way if working on your own or are you using the session view for clearer (?)demonstration purposes.

Just out of interest

Thanks

J

Hey man, if you go through the tutorials, there are quite a few now that go through arrangement in detail in multiple genres. If you are having a problem finding them, let me know and I will try to find them for you.

Thanks!

I havent looked at any of the non ableton recent ones… if theyre in them thats how I missed them

I personally dont like following along to tuts done in different DAWs etc …thats how i roll

It takes me all my time some times following along in Ableton without have to stop and cross reference

Thanks for your offer of assistance though:)

i work mainly in arrangement view.

i only get my drums, percussion, stabs and bassline in session and im straight over to

arrangement. that way i can start arranging the track out then i know what missin and

can add it as i go!!!

its just the way i feel comfortable

They arent on here that often. They usually keep the older members (me, Jon, Roben, Egg) to answer those types of questions. However, it might be best to shoot them an email. bryan@sonicacademy.com

yeah,

they are 4 wise men who will have the answer!!!

The Tech Trance Tutorial does a great job of working in Arrangement View.

Almost the whole thing is done in Arrangement View.

yeah summit different:hehe:

yeah your right,

bryan takes the tech trance tutorial into arrangement almost immediately!!

Thanks guys i’ll do that

But to be honest this forum is subtitled

For subscribers only… Get a quick response from the sonic tutors or support team.

now I cant fault the content of the site but its the small things that matter to me. And this is one of them. If howie et al is the support team then all well and good but for you guys to excuse the tutors of being busy, so many forums etc, well that isnt good enough.

This is a paid for service.

I have bought Ableton tutorials else where and those providers have no reason to help after the (download) fact, I bought downloaded and what do they care if I have questions after. Well 1 in particular has been very helpful and quick to reply when there is no financial gain to be had.

This isnt an ill founded rant or a bagging of the site I think Ive praised what needs to be praised but this part of SA’s game is well below Par.

Tbh the ability to get ideas together in session view is one of the reasons that I use Ableton so much. It means that you can put together ideas so much quicker and hear what different ideas sound like together straight away by simply pressing play. For example I can write 4 or 5 different basslines and straight away hear what each of them sound like against a drum loop I’ve created without having to arrange it out in the arrangement view. I also then build the different sections of my track in different scenes, set up my fx etc on my MIDI controller and then “perform” the track and record it into arrangement view. I can then pop into arrangement and have a rough track done and arranged that I can then edit. If I’m prepared enough in session view it can take the length of the track to arrange it instead of weeks on end by which point I’m sick to death of listening to the tune.

i sort of agree with you there hindsite!

which is why i tend to PM them when i really want their opinion on it!!

maybe they could get into the subscribers section just a wee bit more.

i really dont mind howie, jon, roben, egg etc though!!

they’ve really helped me a lot and hopefully many more times!!!

Its been brought up before by me. Nothing has been done and probably never will. Sorry dude.

Thanks for the replies all, I’m just trying to be constructive as I learn.

Im here im here! im always here!

I just thought you guys where doing a great job of answering the question.

my view is its just much quicker to start off in the scene view. its what makes ableton faster to use compared to logic and cubase.

even if i was doing a track in cubase i would build a 2 bar loop of the main section of the track before i started arranging… gives you something to work too.

if you start laying out your track in the timeline and keep adding stuff as you go you can paint yourself in to a corner.

its all about getting the idea right and then arranging the song around that so that they payoffs of the builds are going to go off.
